Step Two: Determine Research Interest (DUE 9/11)

Step Two

As we discuss what criminologists study, how, and why, think about what issues related to crime and safety in your neighborhood interest you. What is the most pressing problem in your neighborhood related to crime or disorder? Pick a crime type (homicide, property crime, aggravated assault, etc)  that you would be focusing on. This would be your research interest. Then, describe your chosen neighborhood and your research interest in an OpenLab post. Offer feedback on at least two fellow classmates’ OpenLab posts, as well.

Here is a video on how to make a post in OpenLab:

  1. My research paper, I will be looking at the 72nd precinct. I will be researching the amount of crimes that occur around my neighborhood. This month has been pretty hectic. At least two people have been brutally killed just blocks from my household. At this point I’m not even surprised because for as long as I can remember I have always been surrounded by crime. So I guess you can say I grew a passion for it. Whenever I get an alert from the citizens around my neighborhood I run to the scene. I stay there for hours watching law enforcement officers do their job.

  2. The 48th precinct is my area of study. Although the crime rate has dropped significantly, more people are being incrassated. I will focus on weapon possessions and shootings. More people are being caught with weapons and their are multiple shootings. According to https://www.criminaljustice.ny.gov/crimnet/ojsa/GIVE%20VCBF%20Report%20-%202022.pdf, Murder, Rape , Robbery and Aggravated assault all has had a increase in gun activities.
