Discussion Forum 1: Introductions

Please introduce yourselves and post your picture so we know who we’re learning with. Please tell us what your major is, where you are in your time at BMCC (first semester, second-year — whatever), what you might be thinking about for a career, where you are from, and what assets you bring to our class. That is, tell us three AWESOME things about yourself. What do you hope to get out of this course? And what do you think may be challenging for you?

  1. Hello ,
    My name Ariel Hill, I’m 23 years old go Leo’s and I’m studying in criminal justice. I’m from Cincinnati, Ohio but I wasn’t raised there so when people ask I say California because that’s mostly what I know, I’ve lived in New York since I was 14 and I like it. By taking this class I hope it expands on what I already know and new insights on what I don’t know and more understanding. One thing I might find challenging is keeping up and staying organized when taking notes.

  2. Hi, my name is Vanessa im 26 years old and im from Staten Island. My major is criminal justice this is my 3rd semester I took a break but I’m back now and ready to learn. I want to be a detective. I can’t think of three awesome things about myself, just that I’m a first time mom now, how boring lol. I think the only thing that would be challenging this semester is spreading myself out too thin.

  4. Hi, My name is Welinton, I am 22 and I am from Brooklyn. My major is criminal justice, this is my second semester first year in BMCC, I recently changed my major to criminal justice due to the interest i had on it. I haven’t really thought about what path I wanna take for my career, i’m still looking towards social work but i’m still thinking on it. Im not sure what assets I can bring into the class and I have good social intelligence, I cant name 2 more awesome things about me lol. Here is a picture of me.

  5. Hello, my name is Luis Taveras. My major is criminal justice, this is my 3rd semester at BMCC, and I want to be a police officer. What I hope to get from this class is to acquire as much knowledge as possible about what criminology is and for now I don’t know what could be a challenge for me I will realize later.

  6. Hello! My name is Ninoska Donggilio. I’m 20 years old and from Brooklyn, NY. My major is criminal justice and I’m. currently in my 3rd semester at BMCC. I want to strive for becoming a detective. The assests I would bring to our class is great developed ideas in our topic discussions. I like to read, work out and travel. I hope to gain more knowledge of criminal justice and apply it to my future career. A challenge may be time management.

  7. Hello everyone, my name is Fareeza Mohamed am currently majoring in criminal justice this is my second year at BMCC. I switch my major last semester. I am from Guyana one fact about my country is that it’s the only English-speaking country in South America. I think assets that I can bring to the class are that I am very responsible and organized. Three awesome things about me are constantly being creative, getting work done with time management, and helping others understand tasks. I hope to get more education in this course by working individually and with my classmate. Something that’s always challenging for me is to start my day without coffee.

I am 18 years old and i am Mexican , the assets i bring is that i bring new ideas together i also push to do good in the class , three things about me is that i strive to do well , i love crime anything about it interest me and i’m always open minded to new information and everything to learn and keep on learning.

Hello everyone I’m Maria, my major is criminal justice, and I want to become detective I’m from Ecuador, I’m 19 years old.The assets I bring is that different opinions and I have a lot of responsibility. Three awesome things about me are I like work in the nails, help other, I am very dedicated to what I do and what I study and I am very punctual wherever I go.What I expect from this class is to learn more about the subject and to expand my knowledge about my career.

  10. Hey my name is Heriberto, I go by my middle name Christian. This is my final year at BMCC, and hopefully transferring to a different college to take up computer science. I’m 22 years old, born and raised in Brooklyn NY but, honestly can’t wait to leave NYC!! One thing about me is I like to work hard, I’m also a content creator on platforms like Twitch and Tiktok!!

  11. Hi, My name is Ejiro, but everyone calls me “EJ” & I’m majoring in criminology/criminal justice. My main career in life would probably have to be anything in the criminology field like detective, crime scene investigator, etc. this is my second year at bmcc &I’ve lived in New York my whole life. Three things about myself is that I make YouTube video’s, I like to edit videos, & I’m ambitious. I look to expand my knowledge of this career and get to know all the goods and bad’s.

  12. Hello everyone, my name is Kalia, I am 19 years old, and it is my third semester at BMCC. I am a native Brooklynite and for a career I am not sure what I want to yet, but I want to be able other people. Something that I hope to get out of this class is to learn about the factors and the causes and effects that pushes people to commit crimes that hurts others. An asset that I am going to bring to class is prior knowledge and experiences that relates to the discussions.

  14. Hello, my name is Eduardo Perez, I am 20 years old. I come from a Mexican heritage but I was raised in the Bronx. This is my second year at BMCC and my major is Criminal Justice and I am interested in the law enforcement field of work. I think of myself as a helpful classmate. I hope to learn a lot about criminology and hopefully some stuff that I will be able to utilize in the future. One thing I find challenging is time management with all of my classes.

  15. Hi! My Name is Kaitlyn, I’m 19, and i was born and raised in New York City. I am majoring in criminal justice and this is my second semester here at BMCC. I am thinking of wanting to become a detective or something else in the law field. Some assets that i can bring to this class are creativity, teamwork, and communication. Three “awesome” things about myself are that i am bilingual, i like art, and i love dogs especially french bulldogs. Something challenging for me can be my time management skills.

  16. My name is Mark Primo. I am from South America where I did most of my schooling before I migrated to the U.S. I am currently living in Brooklyn. I am excited about this semester and hope to meet some or all my classmates. I am majoring in Criminal Justice on my second semester and hope to work for the Department of Homeland Security one day. I am currently working full time in law enforcement and, I am a full-time student. I enjoyed working out, running, and taking long walks pretty much anything in the fitness world. After completing this course, I hope to gain more knowledge on criminology and the function of it.

Hello guys my name is Kevin Chango, I’m 19 , this is my third semester in bmcc i living for 5 years on nyc and i come from Ecuador, I think that this class will help me develop more skills for the criminal justice career because I want to be a police officer, and something interesting about me is that I already took the police officer exam and passed it, i like play soccer and make new friends.

  20. Hi, my name is brianna martinez, Im 19 years old. I’m currently in my second year im double majoring in CRJ and Psychology. I’ve been living in NYC my entire life but went to my home country of Ecuador for a couple of months. Im currently looking to becoming an attorney and im looking to further my networking skills in this class. 3 facts about me, i love animals, I love to write and My favorite color is Blue.

  22. Hi, my name is Sofia Avila, I’m 19 years old and this is my third semester at BMCC. I was born and raised in Queens, NYC and my major is Criminal Justice. I am very interested in pursuing Legal Tech, and the assets I would bring to this class are critical thinking skills I hope to gain more knowledge to expand on my critical thinking skills. Three things about myself would be I love working out, I like to code, and I try to travel somewhere at least once every year.

  23. Hello my name is Aaliyah , This is my second year at Bmcc. I was born and raised in Washington heights. I am a criminal justice major and to be honest I’ve always known I wanted to study criminal justice from a very young age. Im looking forward to expanded my knowledge in the field, as of right now I want to become a lawyer. One of the challenges I believe I have is being Asynchronous and not meeting just because this is my first class this way and although that is the case I’m still very excited to interact in anyway.

  24. Hey everyone my name is Kiana, this is my second year at BMCC. I was born and raised in Brooklyn. I’m majoring in criminal justice hoping to become a homicide detective in the future. I’ve always known I wanted to do something in the criminal justice field since I was little. during my free time, I like to spend time reading, spending time with my loved ones, and traveling. one of the challenges that I have with this course is that we don’t meet which throws me off a little because I’m very forgetful but writing down the assignments that I have to get done will help me more than I imagine during this course. what I hope to get out of this course is to learn the overall meaning of criminology in every aspect.

  25. Hello, My name is Michael, but everyone calls me Mike. This is my third semester here at Bmcc, majoring in criminal justice. I am using this time to earn my degree so that I may move up within my current job working for the United States Department of Justice. I currently Live in Manhattan, but I was born and raised in Brooklyn. I hope to learn something new by taking this class So far, I have been able to apply things I have learned from other classes into my work life which helps a lot when dealing with the Law. I would say I bring personal experience to the class.

I am from Queens, New York but i currently reside in Long Island. I hope that this course will help me expand my knowledge on society and open more career opportunities for me. I love fashion, basketball and music.

  28. My name is Mehedi Hasan, you can call me Mehedi. This is my 2nd semester at BMCC. I am a transfer student from City college. I am 19 years old majoring in criminal justice. I am doing this major because I really like to help people in a difficult situation where they need help. I believe in Islam religion where my religion teaches me to see everyones as a equal person. I hope this class will teach me enough to learn about criminology and how to get solutions for people that need help. One of the things I can see in this course is that we don’t meet every weekend. That’s the thing I feel like challenging for me but after I spoke to my professor I feel like it’s easier for me to get touch with any assignment that I need help with.
