Ethics Assignment

Based on the debate we had about remote learning, I personally feel that remote learning has more of cons than pros when it comes to any one who is in school wanting to receive the proper education they need in order to move forward with their life. You’re not fully assuring yourself to be able to stay focused when doing online classes from the comfort of your home. That itself creates distractions and limits to be able to portray work at the level you want to accomplish it at. Yeah, you’re not being in contact with anyone near you if you attend school in person so you can receive your education like that but the thing is, it’s starting to come out that it seems better to follow that path rather than just depending remote learning to make sure you are doing what you are supposed to do for school. I strongly believe also with the amount of time that many people ranging from young kids to adults have learned a lot from remote learning and can use that to move forward into attending classes in person, in campus, or wherever. It’s up to any person’s decision whether or not they want to follow through with remote learning or not, as the virus seems to be dimming down with many people taking care of their own health but it’s not fully guaranteed as not everyone goes through taking care of their health like others.

With how the pandemic is going, the type of risks that many companies face now is making sure that the work environment is being clean for all of the employees working at their area is sanitized to ensure they don’t be receiving any sort of contact with the Coronavirus. Keeping up with the employees to ensure that their safety is a big priority and importance for the workplace and whenever something bad happens, they’ll be with you at all costs. Providing safe practices at work to ensure that everyone understands how this virus can impact not only people but even the workplace. A weak side to any sort of company can bring them down drastically since reports would surge in about how the workplace isn’t following proper virus protocols that it should be following like every other big company. So, all these sorts of risks are something that all companies have now to face with running it at a proper pace to ensure safety for the workplace and for the people that are shopping at the place.

Some ways that any sort of company can prevent from anything that the virus can be traced back to any place is making sure that cleaning is a main priority across all the areas that many people are around. With many people touching every little thing at any place, it’s important that every part of the area whenever it be busy or not, is being cleansed from the time they open to the time they close. Along with cleansing, making sure that every person who comes in and goes have face masks on at all times so that everyone is being covered to stay safe even when being outside from home. If you want any workplace to make sure that their protocols are being followed, perhaps do a temperature check whenever any person wants to come in to allow people in that are not feeling well whatsoever to prevent any sort of sickness in any area. Organizations have to implement a strong case across their entire place to ensure that the risks any person can encounter with have to be taken seriously.

The virus is something that not many people take as serious as others do since a lot of opinions come across with it as well. With that, I would always do my part and follow every protocol there is to ensure my safety at all costs. Especially for other people. My willingness to go into work and do what it is asked of me is something I can personally deal with since I know working right now during a big virus is something that much people can say they are working during a pandemic and would be grateful for working. However, I can reach out to anyone in the organization in case I’m not feeling safe at the workplace or something is up with me or have anything regarding the virus. My comfortability levels with many people is something that would be a slight concern since you may never know what type of things other people outside of work are doing so that would be a thing you would need to have in the back of your mind. Realizing that you got to make sure your safety across other people is mainly the priority when it comes to stepping out and heading into any organization now. At the end of the day, people really don’t have control over what happens around their surroundings or how they can react to certain things. However, you can make sure that you are safe as much as you can by covering your face while being outside or inside of a place that requires coverage and if you are doing this then you’re allowing yourself to bring safety to your own health.

When having any sort of job, receiving any sort of benefits is something that can really help you out throughout the course of your life. From paid vacations, sick leave, health/dental insurance and retirement plans is possibly something that is big when it comes to benefits. With all of these things that can become available to you, it makes the workers feel important that they are aware of all these assets to them. Many companies set out their benefits to a point that makes workers set out what they want and making sure they are receiving the right number of benefits.

From what I like with receiving benefits, my current job at Target has a good amount when it comes to benefits and pay to their fellow employees. It comes with a 10% discount that you can use whenever you are shopping at any Target, paid vacation, sick leave, 401 K plan, family leave, health/life insurance. When I think about it, these types of benefits is something that either me or anyone working at any local Target should ever be taken for granted because not much companies offer up these types of things to their fellow employees. This job can be something that you can start from the bottom and reach to a good point for the company, earning a good amount of pay along with the benefits that were stated. Employees have to understand that showing their significance towards the workplace is something that can bring good energy but also the ability to earn their benefits on a good note.

From all of the available benefits that a company brings to the table, it makes sense that health insurance or 401 K plan is something that makes the most important benefit of them all. After you’re done working for a long, period of time, you would love to live a life where you just want to enjoy the rest of their life. Your health within your life is something you want to be aware of especially when you grow older in life and both of these benefits allow you to get your health to be in tact as long as you’re living well with your life. Having a nice life after retirement is something that everyone looks forward to when it comes to working for their entire life and once reaching to that point in your career, benefits can be a huge asset having those.

With all of my own experiences at work and asking fellow people that work alongside with me concludes that not many people focus on the pay, whereas they just focus on their respective work fields and continue doing what they are supposed to do. No matter at what workplace you’re at, it’s always sensible to know what sort of things you’re receiving back when you are staying committed to a spot for a long time. Benefits or not, it’s always important to find out what sort of those are being given out by the company you are seeking to work for. With many companies having these sorts of benefits across the board, it’s something that people really don’t have a concern for but the main concern is which ones are they going to receive when the time comes for it.

 

Retention Assignment

  • What do you think is the most demotivating part of Harper’s job?

The most demotivating part of Harper’s job is not being able to get the recognition that she fully deserves from the amount of work she is putting in for the company. As for that, losing the main person who was able to give her the same amount of work that she was putting in had to let go and became something that Harper had to get use to the situation despite the work relationship they must’ve built together. With her new boss David, she loses that connection she once had with Jose and now lacks that ability to cooperate at a good level to ensure that work is being kept up a good pace. With that, it brings down the motivation to continue working under her new boss David due to the lack of communication and ability to keep up with the work balance since Harper is doing more than what she has been doing.

  • If you were an HR manager meeting with Harper’s supervisor, David, what advice would you give to help them re-engage Harper?

I would do my best to set up a meeting with David to reassure everything that’s not working out in the company, coming up with positives and negatives to seek out a plan to re-engage Harper. Make sure that the boss is fully aware of how employees need to checked out on a daily basis and be kept a level where there is a good balance of work and happiness. If both those don’t present themselves, it can bring such a decrease of happiness at the workplace which makes the employees feel unstable to continue working at any place that they don’t feel wanted or appreciated at. I would also make sure that David is showing good communication to not just Harper but throughout all the workers to make sure they are all on the same direction to reaching the company’s goal.

  • What would be the downside of losing Harper as an employee?

The downside of losing Harper as an employee is losing someone with passion and dedication towards her company no matter what. Loyalty as well due to her being at the same company ever since she had finished college after 22. She’s been there for 4 years. Having a person that brings good energy along with a good work ethic needs to be appreciated and looked at as an important figure to the workplace. Not much workers at any workplace bring that sort of style compared to Harper where she even stayed dedicated when the work was piling up on her even though eventually it had gotten to a limit where she couldn’t handle it any longer. At any cost, keeping an employee like Harper is something that needs to assured 100%.

My biggest takeaway from our previous live session was how engaged they both were from their respective companies in which they work at. Being able to speak upon on how each company has brought them to the position they are at right now. It shows how someone that’s dedicated is being able to get to anywhere in life and strive to work for something that they have fun in.

Equal Rights Assignment

Equal rights legislation is a massive topic that has been transpiring into the world for as many years as it’s started. Equality across both genders always has never gotten to where many women wanted it to be since this affected them the most compared to the men. This affected them personally since they always wanted to be treated the same as the men and have been overlooked in every situation possible. Starting with pay at their jobs being significantly lower than men and basically doing the similar tasks that were being asked of them to do. It came to a point where women have found absurd that how their lives are being handled by with their employers and everything in life as a whole. Many women in the world got sick of how they were getting looked in the public eye but no one had the audacity or courage to stand up for their own rights. Many decades of just mistreatment until it led to one significant person to stand up for everything that a woman has always wanted to happen, change in equal rights.

One woman in the name of Ruth Bader Ginsburg had overseen herself as a person who wanted change to happen in equal rights. In the film “On the Basis of Sex”, she has seen as a powerful woman from the start that has no means to and end at anything and continues to reach her goal of becoming a lawyer. Despite of her having to go through many obstacles of getting overlooked at Harvard law school, she still managed to get her work done alongside her husband that later on reaches testicular cancer which sidelines him from completing his part of becoming a lawyer as well…however, Ginsburg stepped on the behalf of her husband to complete the classes for him as well as completing her own. Graduating as top of her class, she still got rejected by many law firms as her gender really made it hard for her to land a job at any firm available in New York as she struck out massively of reaching that focal point in her life of becoming a lawyer. She paves the way as she gains respect as a professor and takes on a case that’s being shown as gender discrimination which is something that she feels is an upside towards what she is being facing all her life and as a law professor, she’s clear legally to take on the case which would be her first ever. Alongside her husband, she comes along another case of gender discrimination in which she takes on to face the odds in both. As she always seen in herself, she beat the odds and was able to win both of the cases in which made way into many women seeing a change that has been accomplished by a person that’s a female. She made the impossible possible by doing everything that a man can do as a female and made it look as simple as it should’ve been for any woman to do what she did.

Doing what Ruth Ginsburg did is something that takes a lot of gut to withstand all the of the downsides that she faced growing up as a woman but so did the other woman in the world that had to live with that for many years. She’s as powerful as any human being can get, she stood up for her own equal rights and made it possible for the other people to reach that potential they wanted to be at in the future, whether it be a man or woman.

I’m majoring in Business Management and my hobbies mainly have to do with just sports related as I’m a big fan of them and sometimes playing it such as basketball. What I would love to do in the future is possibly a mix of both sports and in the business world. I’m a much calm person that is willingly to learn a lot of what’s coming in the real world.
