Unit 7 Assignment

Our Unit 7 Assignment will build on our newfound understanding of the importance of employee engagement and the challenges organizations face in retaining employees, especially younger employees. We will examine an example of a disengaged employee, and determine how an organization might prevent that employee from leaving.

Here are the steps students should take to complete this assignment:

  1. Read this Case Study and think about how you might feel in Harper’s shoes.

  2. Read this article, Eight Effective Retention Strategies, and determine which might work best in Harper’s situation.

  3. Follow this guide to create a new post and include your responses to the following questions. Select “Retention Assignment” as the post Category. All submissions will populate under the Student Work menu item (Student Work > Retention). Students should review others’ submissions and comment meaningfully (refer to this guide from MMSU for reference) to at least two other students.
    • What do you think is the most demotivating part of Harper’s job?
    • If you were an HR manager meeting with Harper’s supervisor, David, what advice would you give to help them re-engage Harper?
    • What would be the downside of losing Harper as an employee?
