16 Personalities – INFP-T (My Code)
I actually had taken this test a couple days before the assignment was assigned, because my friend had taken it and was interested in what he got and told me I should do it, so i did. After taking the test, they had determined that my personality type was a Turbulent Mediator, my role is a Diplomat, and my strategy is Constant Improvement. After reading up a bit about each of these, I found myself pretty much agreeing with where I was placed, although there were some areas where I felt I was just a bit misplaced.
So as described by the website, Mediators may seem shy or quiet but can lead passionate and lively personal lives. They also say that since these people are a small amount of the population, they can often feel misunderstood or out of touch with the world. I definitely agree with that because I do often feel misunderstood and I also feel out of touch with the modern world because even though I use things such as computers and my smartphone, I don’t necessarily understand or even like things like social media or politics. They also say that Mediators value authenticity, empathy and harmony and they tend to act with the best of intentions. I also agree with this because I do try to act with the best of intentions whenever I do something, even though it doesn’t always work out or may not seem that way on the outside, and I do find it important to be honest and a bit empathic. I really liked a quote they used at the end of the article about Mediators because I agree with it a lot : “Although they know the world will never be perfect, Mediators still care about making it better however they can.”
The assigned strengths to my personality type are as follows, thoughtful, generous, open minded, creative, passionate, loyal to their values. I think that these are mostly right because I do care about others feelings, even people I have never seen or met. I often find myself thinking about what another person is thinking about, and I also think about whether or not my actions will cause someone harm or pain and I try to avoid doing that. I do like to think of myself as pretty generous especially when it comes to money. I don’t care about the amount of money I have, and for the longest time I didn’t even have a bank account because I really did not care. Of course I had to get one when I started working and stuff because the entire world runs on money and banks so if you can’t beat them, join them right. The open-minded strength is VERY true. I think everyone should be able to live their lives the way that they want as long as they are not hurting anyone else. I am very tolerant of other people’s beliefs and lifestyles because everyone deserves the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Next, the assigned weaknesses are overly idealistic, self critical, impractical, emotionally driven, conflict averse, difficult to get to know. I definitely agree with the first 2, and they kind of go hand in hand with each other as well. I can be overly idealistic to where I think about things and think about how amazing they can be when in reality, its not so much. I think all the time about how the world can be such a beautiful place and how it can be better for so many people when I know in reality, the world IS beautiful but it is also harsh, unforgiving, difficult, and a lot of people are suffering. That then plays into the self critical aspect, because when I overly idealize things, not just the whole world, and then they end up being not so great, I disappoint myself and can be hard on myself when I don’t need to be. The other weaknesses are somewhat accurate but one that I don’t think is accurate is difficult to get to know. Now I could be wrong about myself but I think that I am not difficult to get to know because I do like to talk to people and make friends, and while it doesn’t happen often, I think if someone is trying to get to know me, they can.
I think they can be effective ways for determining if someone is right for a role but at the same time they should not be the only determination. The personality tests can shed some light on how a person is and how they think and feel but it’s just a website that is determining this. The website may say one thing but if you actually look at the person, they may act completely different or think different in some way and you would have never gotten that if you only listen to the test. The test can be effective at getting glimpses of someone but it does not show the whole picture.
