Equal Rights
You say I’m different
Because of my color
You shut me down
When I try to rise
You keep me in a cycle
To break my style
But why won’t you
Let me fly
I know I’m black
Thought that didn’t matter
But to you I’m nothing
But a criminal at mind
You call me unqualified
And I don’t know why
Till I show you what’s
In this black mind
You attack my
Fellow sisters
And make them
A trophy for you
You act like
You don’t know their worth
And put them
Second to you
You give them
Low pay
Cause their
Not like you
You disregard
Their thoughts
Cause they don’t
Think like you
But why
I know why
Now
Cause your not
Scared of us
Your scared of what
We can do with our minds

Hi Shane,
Thank you for sharing this poem. Based on the words you used and how you phrased and structured it. It definitely feels personal. May I ask what your inspiration for this poem was? Was it personal to you or does it speak more to our present society as a whole?
Also what structure of poem would you call this? I really enjoyed reading it!
Thank you Robert this poem was a mixture of both personal and present society as a whole. I wanted to use this poem to express what this society does to people self esteem and I wanted to use this so, people can use this to drive for their success. I don’t really know what type of structure poem I just wrote freely and this is how it came about.
Thank for sharing and your explanation.
