Ethics Assignment

For my ethics paper the company that I chose was Chick-Fil-A. I thought hard about this but proceeded to realize it is perfect because it is a company I know very well and usually go there about two times a week, usually when I am on campus. Chick-Fil-A’s is a company whose commitment to ethical business practices is strongly rooted in its corporate culture. As you may know the company is guided by a class of values based on the founder’s Christian beliefs hence, why they are closed on Sundays. These beliefs focus on principles such as honesty, integrity, and treating others with respect. In fact, the company’s “Operator Agreement” and “Employee Handbook” both are documents signed by franchise operators, outline the expectation of working to high ethical standards.

Chick-Fil-A’s approach to social responsibility goes beyond the backend corporate work to the communities it serves directly. The company actively engages in making a positive impact on customers lives. Notably, Chick-Fil-A has a history of philanthropy and community involvement. One being through the Chick-fil-A Foundation, an organization in which the company supports multiple education and youth programs demonstrating a commitment development of the younger generation.

Chick-Fil-A’s ethical stance also stands out in their effort to provide quality ingredients. The company has made themselves known to source chicken raised without antibiotics and has taken steps towards sustainable practices in its supply chain. This commitment to responsible sourcing aligns with increasing consumer expectations for companies to prioritize environmentally friendly and humane practices. I think I can speak for a grand majority of people when I say that your body does not feel the same after eating Chick compared to the way it feels after eating KFC.

This may sound a bit outlandish but when I speak of Chick-Fil-A I genuinely cannot think of what they can do to really become more ethical in a sense. From the practice of Christian beliefs to serving the best quality chicken to the volunteer programs they offer for the youth. Since they have been around it feels as if they have become the cream of the crop for this fast food business. The one and only thing I can think of or consider is being open longer. The reason I say this is because they are already closed on Sundays and they are such a popular and busy food chain that they will be busy at all times of the day. Them being open longer will result in opening of more shifts which means more chances at jobs for the youth and those in need.

Title: Uber’s Commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Business Practices

Introduction:

In the contemporary business environment, the integration of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable business practices is increasingly recognized as essential for a company’s success and societal impact. Uber, a global leader in ride-sharing and technology, has actively embraced these principles, implementing initiatives across various facets of its operations.

Environmental Sustainability:

One of Uber’s noteworthy focuses is on environmental sustainability. The company is taking significant strides toward reducing its carbon footprint by investing in electric and hybrid vehicles. With ambitious goals to transition a substantial portion of its fleet to electric options, Uber is at the forefront of promoting eco-friendly transportation. In certain cities, the platform offers users the option to select electric or hybrid vehicles, emphasizing its commitment to greener alternatives (“Uber’s Environmental Initiatives”).

Accessibility and Inclusivity:

Uber recognizes the importance of inclusivity and accessibility in its services. The platform has introduced wheelchair-accessible vehicles in some locations, ensuring that individuals with disabilities have convenient and accessible transportation options. Furthermore, Uber has implemented diversity and inclusion programs within its workforce, addressing gender and racial disparities and fostering an environment of equality (“Uber’s Inclusivity Programs”).

Safety Measures:

Ensuring the safety of both riders and drivers is a paramount concern for Uber. The app incorporates various safety features, including real-time tracking, anonymous pick-up and drop-off points, and an in-app emergency button. Thorough background checks on driver-partners contribute to a secure and trustworthy ride experience, demonstrating Uber’s commitment to safety as a core value (“Uber’s Safety Initiatives”).

Community Engagement:

Uber actively engages with local communities through partnerships and initiatives. Collaborating with nonprofits, community organizations, and local businesses, the company addresses specific needs and contributes positively to the areas it serves. Moreover, Uber’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic underscores its commitment to community well-being, with initiatives supporting frontline workers and delivering essential goods through Uber Eats (“Uber’s Community Impact”).

Ethical Considerations:

Uber faces scrutiny regarding the classification of its drivers, prompting the company to improve working conditions and provide benefits such as sick leave and injury protection in some regions (“Uber’s Labor Practices”). Uber is transparent in its policies, ensuring that both drivers and riders have a clear understanding of the terms and conditions governing the platform. These steps reflect Uber’s dedication to ethical considerations and fair labor practices.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, Uber’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable business practices is evident across its diverse initiatives. From environmental sustainability and inclusivity to safety measures, community engagement, and ethical considerations, Uber continues to evolve in response to the evolving landscape of the ride-sharing industry. While challenges persist, Uber’s proactive efforts to address these issues underscore its dedication to responsible business practices that prioritize the well-being of both individuals and the communities it serves.
