Retention

Harper’s job can be demotivating due to factors such as lack of recognition, limited growth opportunities, a negative work environment, or feeling undervalued. To re-engage Harper, HR manager David should have open communication, recognize and appreciate Harper’s achievements, provide growth opportunities, and foster a positive work environment. This can be achieved through team-building activities, work-life balance, and prompt resolution of conflicts.

Losing Harper could result in a loss of expertise, disruption of workflow, decreased morale, and cost implications. Harper’s valuable knowledge and skills could impact productivity and the quality of work produced by the team. Disruption of workflow could require additional time and resources to train a new employee or redistribute responsibilities among existing team members. Decreased morale could lead to decreased overall team performance. Cost implications include recruitment expenses, time required to train and integrate new employees, and potential loss of institutional knowledge and relationships with clients or stakeholders.

In conclusion, HR managers should take steps to re-engage Harper by fostering open communication, recognizing Harper’s achievements, providing growth opportunities, and fostering a positive work environment.

The Founder

  1. What makes Ray Kroc and the brothers different from each other? Both the brothers and Ray had different approaches and roles in McDonalds. Ray was a businessman who saw potential in the fast food concept created by the brothers. He partnered with them and eventually bought them out, turning McDonalds into a global franchise. Throughout the progress his main focus is on making the business bigger and having a bigger profit.
  2. Do you think the McDonald’s brothers did the right thing by selling out to Ray Kroc? Did Ray Kroc give the brothers a good deal? Well it depends on which side you’re on, or who you are. Because on one hand then selling to Kroc allowed them to have access to a good amount of money up front. It also saved them the responsibility of the business, but they also lost the control they had over the future growth of the name.
  3. How did the local store franchises make money? The local store franchise would benefit from selling McDonald’s products and services to costumers. They would generate revenue at the sale of food and franchise. The franchises are responsible for covering all operating cost, including employee wages, rent, utilities, and supplies.
  4. How did Kroc make money? How was that different than the franchisee, ruining the local stores? Kroc made money by owning the franchising rights and collecting royalties from the franchisees. He made money by selling milkshakes machines but later saw the potential in franchising the McDonald’s concept. Kroc income was passive as he earned the sales from the franchisees. This allowed his business to grow rapidly.
  5. Does this film change your view of McDonald’s? It doesn’t really change my view but it just makes me understand a little bit more of the background and as well as how it grew.

Ethics Writing Assignment- Old Navy (week E)

Gap Inc. was founded in 1969, Banana Republic was founded in 1978, Old Navy founded in 1994, and Athleta was founded in 1998. These four stores are sister stored which means they were bought by one another, and they share similar ways their organization in built on. The store that I will be focusing on is Old Navy, I have a personal connection with the store since I still work on it during the weekends. When I first started, I had through go through Old Navy’s onboarding program to make sure I have the understanding and background of Old Navy. When seeing the on boarding video I noticed that Old Navy is a non-profit organization. They have a lot of volunteer work and have donations. Old Navy has committed over $2 million annually to nonprofit partners, including the longtime partners Boys & Girls club.

Philanthropy: Old Navy can establish partnerships with local charities and organizations to support causes aligned with their values. This can include donating a portion of sales to these organizations or organizing fundraising events. For example, not that long ago the Old Navy location that I work in was taking donation for kids who have been exploited and trafficked.

Energy Conservation: The company can invest in energy-efficient technologies and practices across their stores and distribution centers. This can include using LED lighting, implementing smart heating and cooling systems, and optimizing energy usage in their operations.

Sustainable Supply Chain: Old Navy should prioritize working with suppliers who follow sustainable and ethical practices. This means ensuring fair labor conditions, minimizing waste, and reducing the environmental impact throughout the supply chain.

Reducing Carbon Footprint: The organizations can set goals to reduce greenhouse gas emission by implementing initiatives such as renewable energy sourcing, utilizing electric vehicles for transportation, and implementing carbon offset programs.

Fair Trade: Old Navy can improve transparency and ethical sourcing by emphasizing fair trade practices. This involves working with suppliers who ensure fair wages, safe working conditions, and environmentally sustainable practices.

Community Service: Encourage employees to participate in community service activities by offering paid time off for volunteer work. Additionally, Old Navy can support local community projects through financial contributions and partnerships.

Employee Volunteerism: Establish an employee volunteer program that allows employees to give back and engage in volunteer activities during work hours. This can promote team building, boost employee morale and contribute to the betterment of society.

Old Navy can positively impact its employees and the local community by implementing sustainability practices, supporting community projects, and promoting employee volunteerism. The actions not only among employees and customers, setting an example for the retail industry.
