Retention Assignment

  • What do you think is the most demotivating part of Harper’s job?

The most demotivating part of Harper’s job is definitely the feeling of the lack of support, that is being provided to her to help understand the tasks being added. With this lack of support, there is also a possibility of feeling disconnected from the rest of her team.

  • If you were an HR manager meeting with Harper’s supervisor, David, what advice would you give to help them re-engage Harper?

Based on the methods that were mentioned from the article, I think three methods could be used in order to help re-engage harper and make her feel connected to her entire team. The first method I believe that would be good is to have her speak her mind about what is going on with her situation and have her speak as clearly as possible with David. This should help Harper feel to have less of a burden on her shoulders for the time being. The second method I think would help would be for her to feel some appreciated as she is tackling more than she was used to handling for tasks and trying to step up on her part as well. The third method that ties in with this would be to help her have less tasks on her plate in order to prevent burnout as it seems like she is reaching that point.

  • What would be the downside of losing Harper as an employee?

The downside of losing Harper as an employee would be that it would have one less person on the team which means her tasks would have to be given to someone or split amongst others and causing slower productivity and a decrease in morale. There is also how the team and David will be viewed inside their work environment if there were to lose Harper as it would look like many people are choosing to leave the group/company since Jose left.

The Founder Assignment

What makes Ray Kroc and the brothers different from each other?

What makes Ray Kroc and the brother very different is their persistence and method to succeeding. The brothers tried their best to maintain standards and hold on to their morals and practices as long as possible, however Ray only focused on one goal and rushed in a reckless manner that took any means necessary to achieve his goal.

Do you think the McDonald’s brothers did the right thing by selling out to Ray Kroc? Did Ray Kroc give the brothers a good deal?

I think the McDonald’s brothers did the right thing for selling out to Ray Kroc. As sad as it was, it seemed to have been over the moment they signed the contract with him as there was no means to stop him from stealing the franchise from them. The best they could do was make the best of their situation. Ray Kroc could have given the brothers a better deal but was ultimately too greedy and cautious to make one.

How did the local store franchisees make money?

Local stores started up their businesses by having permission having the construction and location of their stores provided. Afterwards, most of their profits would be given to the higher ups to show the efficiency of the store and to remain open in that location.

How did Kroc make money? How was that different than the franchisees, running the local stores?

Kroc was originally making his money normally like other franchises in the movie, but as time went on, he realized he had to change his approach to make money. Instead, he approached it by selling the land and rights to operate a McDonalds store itself.

Does this film change your view of McDonald’s?

It does change my view of McDonald’s and of business as a whole. While it is true that Ray Kroc was a greedy person, he was persistent enough to evolve the company as a whole to become what it is today.
