The Founder

What makes Ray Kroc and the brothers different from each other?

One of the main differences that I see is that Kroc had more of the business mindset. He seemed to be of a whatever it takes to be successful kind of person. The brothers were more balanced and I saw them to be a lot more ethical.

Do you think the McDonald’s brothers did the right thing by selling out to Ray Kroc? Did Ray Kroc give the brothers a good deal?

I feel as if the McDonald’s could have maybe tried to hold on for a bit longer and potentially get a little better deal, although it was not terrible. As I had answered above it seemed as it Kroc was going to get his hands in there one way or another. The deal was not terrible but it was also one that could have been handled a lot better.

How did the local store franchises make money?

For the most part it was a very typical business mindset. They offer McDonalds products and continue to generate revenue from the products

How did Kroc make money? How was that different than the franchisees, running the local stores?

Kroc initially began making money with the ownership of the rights. He also had his own products which would generate funds. He realized that he had to sell the rights which was one of the differences compared to the local stores.

Does this film change your view of McDonald’s?

This film partially changed my view on McDonalds from a money point of view. Many people view McDonalds as quick and low quality fast food compared to its competition. What I learned was the persistency that Kroc had to have in order to get where he was able to get.
