The company I choose is Ben and Jerry’s, it is a company that manufactures ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sorbet. Founded in May 5, 1978 in Burlington, Vermont started off as an ice cream parlor to a multinational brand in a couple decades with the founders being Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield. Ben and Jerry is dedicated to human rights and to preserve the natural environment
Ben and Jerry’s persevere the environment by reducing their carbon footprint by lessening their waste and promote renewable electricity sources. Their company plans to use 100% renewable energy and reduce their emissions by 40% by 2025 right now a single Ben and jerry’s produce about 3.4 pounds of carbon dioxide. Ben and also looks closely after their farmers and the wellbeing of their cows. They have Global animal partnership (GAP) who make sure each cow is healthy and well cared for
Ben and Jerry’s advocates for human rights and honest labor practices they are “the very first dairy buyer to adopt the Milk with Dignity program, an independent farmworker-led human rights standard for working conditions on dairy farms, on farms in the Northeast US. And for farmers’ participation in the Caring Dairy program and Milk with Dignity program, we pay them additional money, so it’s a win-win for everyone.” Ben and Jerry’s also “support grassroots groups throughout the U.S. and its territories that are led by the people most impacted by the legacies of white supremacy culture as they organize for racial equity, and social and environmental justice.” The glass root group “center the leadership and collective action of Black communities, Indigenous communities, and communities of color in their efforts to build movements to dismantle oppressive and discriminatory systems toward a more just and inclusive world.”
After researching about Ben and Jerry”s I’ve realized that there isn’t much I would do to change I think the company is already on the right path. what I would recommend is that they try to expand their glass roots outside of Vermont and try to influence other companies or people to join them or do something similar by like having ad campaigns or have workshops that makes it easier for people and companies to be more informed and possibly more willing to join them.
