Retention Assignment – Mark Robinson

What do you think is the most demotivating part of Harper’s job?

Based on the case study, the most demotivating aspect of Harper’s job seems to be the combination of increased workload and a perceived lack of recognition or support. Harper is now shouldering additional responsibilities that were previously handled by her former boss, Jose. This has led to a more challenging workload, making it difficult for her to maintain a healthy work/life balance. The feeling of being constantly behind on her to-do list can be overwhelming and demoralizing. Despite taking on more responsibilities, she feels undervalued or overlooked. Harper’s new boss, David, has less time to dedicate to her development and workload management. This lack of availability and support from a supervisor can contribute to feelings of isolation and frustration, particularly when compared to the more supportive relationship she had with Jose. Recognition is a crucial motivational factor for employees, and when it is lacking, it can lead to feelings of frustration and dissatisfaction.

If you were an HR manager meeting with Harper’s supervisor, David, what advice would you give to help them re-engage Harper?

If I was meeting with David to offer advice to help re-engage Harper,I would encourage David to schedule a one-on-one meeting with Harper to discuss her concerns, workload, and overall job satisfaction. This meeting should provide a safe space for Harper to express her feelings and for David to gain a better understanding of her perspective. David should allow Harper to share her thoughts and concerns without interruption. This will help build trust and demonstrate that her feelings and opinions are valued. He should also, highlight specific examples of her work and express appreciation for the effort she has put into covering the additional responsibilities since Jose’s departure. Ensure that expectations and goals are clearly communicated. David should discuss Harper’s role, responsibilities, and potential career development opportunities. Clarity on these aspects can help Harper see a path forward and understand how her contributions align with the team’s objectives. David should also schedule regular check-ins with Harper to monitor her well-being, discuss progress on workload management, and address any emerging concerns. Regular communication can help foster a supportive working relationship. David also needs to address the staffing gap left by Jose’s departure. Discuss plans for filling or restructuring the role to ensure that the team is adequately supported, which will also contribute to a more balanced workload for Harper.

What would be the downside of losing Harper as an employee?

Losing Harper as an employee could result in a combination of knowledge loss, disruptions in work continuity, challenges in team dynamics, increased costs, and potential reputation damage. It underscores the importance of addressing Harper’s concerns to retain a valuable employee and maintain a positive and productive work environment. Harper likely possesses specific skills and expertise that are valuable to the company. Her departure could result in a loss of institutional knowledge, especially if she has been with the company for a significant amount of time or has expertise in critical areas. Teams often rely on the unique skills and contributions of each member, and losing Harper might affect the overall effectiveness and cohesion of the team.

Marketing Assignment

Strategic marketing is key to building a successful business by fostering brand recognition, financial growth, customer loyalty, and meaningful engagement with the target audience. When I was growing up in the early 2000s, there were tv commercials for Fanta soft drinks that were really striking and definitely caught my attention because of the creativity of their ads. Using the allure of a tropical setting and lively music to promote Fanta added a fun and refreshing element to connect with the target audience, especially teenagers. It creates a memorable experience tied to the product.

In one of the commercials the members of the girl group called Fantanas, ask a group of young men who are bored with watching television if they ”Wanta Fanta?” Then, they begin dancing to the ad campaign’s repetitive theme song, ”Wanta Fanta? Don’t You Wanta.” This ad didn’t satisfy a specific need for me since I wasn’t a huge fan of soda. However, whenever I definitely was more enthusiastic about purchasing it. I would point it out at the store whenever I was with my mom and sing the catchy, ‘Wanta Fanta? Don’t You Wanta” song. It came to a point that whenever we had a family get together or barbeque together, there was either cans of Fanta or a huge bottle of it!!

Ethic Assignment Example Samsung – Mark Robinson

The company that came to mind for this assignment for me was Samsung. Samsung’s multi-pronged corporate social responsibility  strategy appears to be a comprehensive approach that integrates various initiatives aimed at social development, environmental sustainability, and technological innovation. The emphasis on empowering people through education and skill development aligns with the goal of fostering a more sustainable and technologically advanced society. Furthermore, the focus on sustainability, both in terms of the company’s operations and the products it offers, reflects a commitment to minimizing ecological impact and promoting a greener future.

The integration of technology in Samsung’s CSR initiatives underscores the company’s understanding of the pivotal role technology plays in addressing global challenges. By leveraging its strengths in technological innovation, Samsung aims to contribute to a better world through initiatives like carbon capture and clean air technologies. This aligns well with the company’s mission and vision statements, emphasizing the use of innovative technologies for the betterment of society.

In addition to these technology-driven efforts, Samsung’s involvement in charitable initiatives and employee giving programs demonstrates a holistic approach to corporate citizenship, addressing diverse stakeholder interests. By incorporating programs that focus on human development, sustainability, and community engagement, Samsung showcases a commitment to creating a positive impact beyond its business operations.

Overall, Samsung’s CSR strategy seems to be a reflection of the company’s broader commitment to social and environmental responsibility, while leveraging its technological expertise to drive positive change. By focusing on education, sustainability, and community engagement, Samsung aligns its CSR efforts with its corporate mission and vision, fostering a culture of innovation and responsible business practices.

While Samsung’s CSR efforts with its corporate mission and vision, after doing more research on the ethical practices of the company there definitely can be strategies to create a more sustainable business.

Establishing an honest and transparent dialogue with consumers is crucial in building trust and loyalty. Openly addressing concerns and actively seeking feedback can foster a sense of accountability and demonstrate a genuine commitment to ethical practices. Implementing independent oversight to monitor product safety and labor conditions can provide an objective assessment of the company’s operations, ensuring that ethical standards are consistently upheld and potentially identifying areas for improvement.

The introduction of a dedicated product safety department and the enforcement of stricter safety checks within the supply chain can significantly enhance product quality and safety standards. By ensuring that suppliers adhere to stringent safety protocols through contractual agreements, Samsung can establish a comprehensive framework for responsible sourcing and manufacturing practices. By integrating these proposed processes into their business operations, Samsung can effectively demonstrate its dedication to ethical practices and responsible corporate citizenship, fostering a sustainable and positive impact within the industry and among its stakeholders.
