Walking Tour of a Community: A Field Trip to Washington Heights

OVERVIEW

This lesson plan focuses on the impact of Dominicans on the community of Washington Heights and presents a plan for teachers to: evaluate the impact that a group of people and community leaders have on a community; research new information about a community; determine importance of significant figures; visualize a neighborhood; make meaningful connections between their communities and community leaders; and produce a final project like our zine as an example.

This project focuses on the cultural, economic, and political impact of a Group of people on a community (e.g., the contributions of Dominican immigrants in the community of Washington Heights).
