Discussion Board Prompt #5

  • Post and Comment on Discussion Board #5
    • THIS POST IS DUE  BY 11:59pm on Friday 10/2;
    • Comment due by 11:59 on Monday 10/5.
    • *Use the title format “[FirstName] [LastName] DB 5”

This week, we are going to use the discussion board to check in about the class, any questions that you want to raise, and an option to contribute a song to a class playlist that I will use at the start/end of class.

Please share with us:

  • Something that you think is going well in this class — something to do with you, your classmates, and/or the professor;
  • Something that you would like to change or would like to see changed;
  • One song that you would like to add to the class playlist for opening and closing music. Share with us why this song is a good choice for a class in Asian American History (or, why else you suggested it).

Extra Credit Opportunity 10/8 from 2-4pm

Hello!

Next week, the Center for Ethnic Studies at BMCC is hosting an event: Free Migrant Survivors! Discussion + Letter Writing Action — please come and/or share the link with anyone you think may be interested!

The first part of the event includes a roundtable discussion with members of Survived and Punished about how gendered violence intersects with policing, incarceration, and immigration enforcement + how defense campaigns have organized to free criminalized migrant survivors.

+ then, we will have a letter writing action to show solidarity with survivors who live within the intersection of gender violence and criminalization! Supplies needed: paper, something to write with, an envelope, and a stamp. I will provide you with a stamp if needed.

Anyone attending the event will receive extra credit!

Be in touch with questions,

Professor Munshi

Discussion Board #4 Prompt

    • THIS POST IS DUE  BY 11:59pm on Friday 9/25;
    • Comment due by 11:59 on Monday 9/28.
    • *Use the title format “[FirstName] [LastName] DB 4”
  • Please reflect on the following questions:
    • Given the different texts you reviewed this week, how would you explain the idea that race is a social construction? Select one piece of evidence from the film, the short video, and the reading to make your case.
    • What comes up for you this week as you review the materials, what questions, feelings, discomforts, affirmations, etc.?

You may need to log into Zoom with your BMCC account ….

I heard a rumor that there have been changes to the Zoom settings + that you will now need to log in with your BMCC account to access your classes. I do not know if this is correct but please test this out before class or come to class a little early so that you have time to problem-solve if needed.

See you later!
