According to Bao Phi, it seems that the asian american community supports cops, as long as they do not attack their own kind. Siding with cops who kill innocent black people is basically siding with certain racist white people, who are also like the Ku Klux Klan, White Supremacist, Neo-Nazis, Anti-Semitics and Skinheads. Asians only hate the police if they shoot another asian, they do not care about other races, What’s messed up is the two asian cops who were shot, were being victim blamed, as they are no better than any other race besides white, it’s convenient and hypocritical. I think Phi wants to teach us is that we should support other communities who are targeted by police as well, and not support someone who will turn on you in a second, or at least put on a facade.
According to Kate Zen’s article, what I learned about Chinese conservatism, is that it seems like white conservatism, defending someone who is wrong, and only acting when it is in your favor. Chinese people seemed angry when on of their own was attacked by a black man, and because of that experience they feel they need police protection from all black folks, asians are the least discriminated against among anyone that is not a white person or what is properly deemed white. It’s very similar to Phi’s, seems shameless
The goal of the letter is to make everyone realize that we need to support black people, they are killed by cops like it’s an everyday exercise. Everyone should be an advocate for BLM

For Frameworks I chose “Racism that Bridges” by Kim Tran, many Asian Americans who came to America, many of them were alienated by the white American people who first came here, physically and verbally they were belittled and treated like a disease, not just adults, children were bullied and ignored too, which is unforgivable, referred to as yellow skin and narrow eyed people. I chose this one because it is important for people to learn that it is not okay to judge someone based on their looks
For Stories I chose “Retired Education in Boston” by Jean Y. Wu, in this passage she talk about how she was walking home and a young white dude in a car and shouted at her virus bitch and chink bitch. Asian people of all ages, genders and sexualities everywhere are being attacked with fists and words because of covid. Being blamed for the pandemic that has hit the entire earth. I chose this passage because people need to know what is happening to Asians, no one gets a free pass to be an asshole just because you are scared
For Resources I chose “Mutual Aid Kit” by Mon Mohapatra, in this passage her mother is falls on the sidewalk and is injured and a neighbor helps her, at the hospital the another patient was angry that her mother was there and called her a dirty chink, the doctor they saw who was chinese said that the racist patient did not want to see him because he is chinese, the woman was grateful to the neighbor for helping her mother. I picked this story because there are a lot of ignorant people who only want white doctors and not asian, black, hispanic, middle eastern of jewish, I even read a story of a woman who wanted her son to see a white doctor instead of a black one and so many people yelled at her. Piece of trash people like that are

According to the readings “The Forgotten Asian Refugees Fed Into the U.S. Prison System” and “Unsettled” and the video of the Cambodian ex gang member being deported. A man named Phal Sok and is family fled Cambodia in the year 1979. In Cambodia people were being forced into execution, starvation, disease and forced labor. Do to Trump’s idiotic law many Cambodians have been deported by ICE, regardless of how long the have lived here. Being forced away from their families back to a country they have not been to at all, or haven’t been too a long time ago. Cambodia has had a civil war and a war with vietnam ann was under the rule of Khmer Rouge rule which ruined many lives. Cambodia is a poor country were it is hard to make a living and there are even gangs out there. Many deportees and refugees have lived in brutal conditions and even commited suicide. Cambodians were treated unfairly by our country’s poor and close minded handling of things. It is heartbreaking, having family members being sent miles away from you is melancholy.

According to the readings the term “Model Minority” comes from this idea that Asian Americans are more astute, shrewd, crafty and capable to all other races in the nation. This would make other minorities such as black/african/caribbean and latinx/hispanic/spanish look inferior intellectually and does not seem to give a fair fighting chance at being academically powerful. Asians are already stereotyped as being wealthy and intelligent, and have high standards. Asian families usually expect their children to be a doctor or lawyer and to make a lot of money, being second place to success, right behind white/caucasian/european americans.
Asian American students are suing Ivy league schools believing that other minority students are being treated more fairly than they. Racial quotas seem silly, that people only get accepted to schools because of their race. Most people feel okay with this. People play the race card when it’s convenient for them but talk about racial equality so that people don’t seem different. No one should be discriminated against but there are people who have it hard in life people of their skin color so it seems a little fair that they get some type of help to get through college and get a good job, but we should never take out privilege for granted and never try to seem like a victim. When it comes to race some people can be hypocritical.

In America you need to be White/European/Caucasian to meet the Criteria for citizenship. You had to be a certain type of white, as in the right skin color of white, as Irish are seen as too pale and Italian and Greeks are too tan. White people from other countries such as Argentina, Egypt, Lebanon were seen as different. White people, mainly the rich, straight, powerful, heteronormative cisgender men and trophy wives feel they are entitled and self-righteous. It has always been this way which is melancholy and infuriating that certain white people are seen as they real citizens. Asians and all other races are still being bashed for where they come from, and how they look, speak, dress, practice. Even if they assimilate the still won’t fit in. No one should have to change who they are for another group of people. Most americans are racist and xenophobic because they are taught to hate and still do so, only a few see how wrong it is. You would also be discriminated for more if say your religion, physical appearance, able bodied, weight, facial features and skin. Even you mentally. The more different you are the more cruelly you are ridiculed. Many Japanese people are referred to as Japs. They were thrown into camps. They had to do as the white man told or they would go to jail for 20 years. They had to live their life to the white man’s accord. It’s sickening.
Citizenship today, American is suppose to be the land of the free and the home of the brave, some people have rights but are still treated oddly. Immigrants are being told go back to your country. Hispanics detained and deported by ICE. Black people being shot by police. Asians being blamed for the pandemic. Muslims being accused of terrorism. No one is made to feel belonged here unless you are Eastern European white. French, German, English, even though white people discriminate against each other too, saying who has the best origins. Americans are suppose to feel like they can do anything in this world. But our corrupt and idiotic government and leaders want in to be like the 1960s here. These self proclaimed pioneers, wanting everyone to follow their words and actions. Having no shame for the harm they bring on other people, mainly the less fortunate. I feel welcome but ashamed of our country. I sometimes can’t go place without people looking at me like a gangster or criminal. I watched something about a gay filipino male lawyer in San Fran, who wrote BLM on his property only for two white people to come up to his face, telling him it’s not his and not to write that. The man had many cop and fireman friends who came to arrest, reprimand and mortify the racist, homophobic morons. This country should not be this way, I can’t blame people for hating America

Basically the chinese were treated as miscreants and were dubbed the dreads of society. Being racially and sexually discriminated against. Even the child were not allowed to attend school in the US. Minorities whoever could attend schools but were alienated from the white students. Very unfair and hypocritical. It was cruel how chinese were thrown into detainment centers and camps, and seem if they were ever treated human, it would be because it’s convenient for white americans, along with black, hispanic, native american, middle eastern, pacific islander, and asians such as indians. Disgusting how imperialistic things are, chinese women being forced into prostitution. Chinese people were kept out of mexico and american and were forced into cheap manual labor and sweatshops. Greeks, slavs, italians and jews were treated badly as well being outcasted and chastised. Today Asians are stereotyped with the following: good in math, eating with chopsticks, knowing martial arts, playing piano. Asians are humiliated and harrassed because of the pandemic, being blamed solely for it and treated like a plague. I’ve read how an 89 year old chinese woman was set on fire in san francisco because of it, and two chinese women in australia were spat at and had a brick thrown at them. these racist white people make me conflicted about being multiracial, I myself am, African, Albanian, Greek and Turkish(which is white), Asian (Indian and Pakistani) and Native American (Cherokee and Blackfoot)

I feel like the class is going well, it is easy, I am learning a lot about Asian culture and the experiences asian people have gone through over the years. there isn’t anything I can think of seeing change and I don’t have any song recommendations

After watching “A Conversation with Asian Americans on Race” I see that many Asian Americans, regardless if they are East Asian, South Asian or Middle Eastern or Turkish are discriminated against. They were chastised and ridicule for their race, heritage, ethnicity, ancestry, nationality, religion and culture which was very bleak for them. Being called names and racial slurs from a young age, even from other kids their own age is cruel. They were mistaken for other races such as Native American, African American and Hispanic/Latinx and received the same prejudiced as those groups of people were just because some of them have brown skin and someone asians are called yellow as well. They are forced to believe that they need to assimilate with White/Caucasian/European Americans so that they will fit in better. White Americans from early times and still now today, mostly from the south have absolutely no qualms about spewing hate and ignorance to Asians and all other cultures just because they are different.
Watching “Race the Power of an Illusion” people are judged based on the color of their skin. It is unjust, no one deserves to be treated that way. The day and age we live in now people need to learn to stop being so awful and bigoted. We need to break the cycle of hate. We weren’t born to steal. People are taught to hate and this needs to change in America as well as the rest of the world we live in. I am truly ashamed to watch and here such atrocities in the media as well as real life from my own experiences as well as my friends as family.

Many Asians immigrate to the United States of America for a better life. I know my Indian/Pakistani great grandfather had a hard life coming here and being ostracized by American people. This is mainly due to the push and pull factors, the push factors being, forces of nature, overpopulation, moral ethics, dangers to the people and the ecosystem. The pull factor being the positive counterpart vice-versa, getting people out of poverty by getting more money, helping nature and making good political decisions for the citizens and the nation. Gaining freedom, justice, truth, honor and liberty.
When coming to the American country many Asians feel they need to assimilate as much as possible to be able to fit in and be accepted and not be discriminates against. In Asian countries being LGBTQIA+ is looked down upon and the USA is more accepting of people who are not heterosexual and are not expected to fall under such category. Uighur Muslims in China are being tortured, detained, raped and killed and as a man who is black, white, Asian and Muslim I am deeply disturbed and disgusted by this Islamophobia.
