I know last class we spent some time talking about the ways that the Census classifies race.
While these categories are problematic and inaccurate, the complicated thing — as we talked about — is that the Census is the primary way we are “counted” in the United States. And, being “counted” is directly tied to the resources that are distributed in our communities. People of color in the U.S. have historically been undercounted in the Census + this means that we have not received our fair share of public monies.
