- In the article “The Subtle Evolution of Native American Education, I’ve learned that the Native Americans did not had a fair shot in the school systems. Also, there was a lot of discrimination towards Native Americans and people would belittle them. The DOE didn’t collect the accurate data on the percentage of Native Americans and they would mix up the information.
2. Something that I’ve learned from watching this weeks video is that Native Americans only make up 1% of the US population. I also learned that less than 1% of students in Fresco County are Native American and that they often feel overlook because of their small numbers.
3. My source on this topic is “The issues of Native American Education System Failure”. This article talks about the failure of the education system in the late 1800’s. I chose this source because not only did it mentioned when it started, but it also mentioned the lack of skilled teachers, funding, and technology.

This info is laid out really nicely-great flow. It also surprised me that the DOE couldn’t collect accurate information on Native American students. Whether that’s intentional or not, it really highlights the disregard the American education system has for minorities.
I think that the source you provide is great because it goes beyond statistics and it mentions another issue other than the education system being unfair to Native Americans. African-born immigrants also face the same problem in the education system because of the fact that they are minority groups.
I think it’s interesting that you pointed out the statistics of population in relation to feeling overlooked. I definitely got that from the video we watched in class, the students who were interviewed were commenting on the actual content of what they are learning in school about their own community and culture. There is not the same representation that there should be in school systems and assisting in creating curriculums/teaching.
