The only way to bring about change within this issue is to include all those who were affected in this issue. There’s a chance you read this because you’ve either experienced it or someone you know is experiencing it and you’re ready to create a change.

The first step is to discuss what you or your loved one has been through and how it has affected you. By doing so there is no confusion about what you’re discussing and it is clear how this issue has conflicted with you. The next step is to check yourself and your emotions, when you let your feelings get in the way it seems to take over your mind and you speak from the heart instead of the mind. The third step, is to define the core issue and what’s causing it, and how to end it. And lastly, listen and collaborate with those you have the issue with, that way you hear their side and explanations.

Example :

  1. Discuss: My child’s teacher plays games and watches movies all day and my child doesn’t learn/gain any new knowledge and its affecting their growth and development
  2. Check Emotions: Talk about how you’re feeling with a friend or family member, put your personal feelings aside and remain calm.
  3. Define Issue: Academic and teaching style, my child’s learning needs aren’t being met nor is the educator’s teaching style helping my child.
  4. Listen/Collaborate: Ask to have a discussion/meeting with the educator and administration. Ask about their perspective of things and how it’s looking it’ll turn out. Discuss what can change and how it’ll get better.

Change isn’t always that easy but it’s a start. Of course, there could be a different turnout but at that point, it’s just the beginning.
