Week 12 FINAL, Creative Projects Part 1

I hope you had a good weekend.

I have really enjoyed your devised pieces. I look forward to receiving submissions from those of you who are a little behind with your work. I will share your class piece next week, so please submit your pieces ASAP so they can be included. Here is last semesters piece to give you some inspiration.

Moving forward, we are preparing for your FINAL, Creative Projects. Now is a great time to get caught up if you are behind. I would recommend taking look at how many points each assignment is worth and make yourself a plan to get done what you can, so you can earn the best grade possible with the time you have to give. We are all juggling multiple responsibilities and time management can be a challenge. Do not let perfection prevent your progress. If you need further support please let me know. I’m happy to schedule a Zoom call or phone chat to help get you back on track.

Review the readings/videos from the semester to refresh your focus and make sure you incorporate details into your Creative Project.

DB 12: Creative Project FINAL part 1

(10 Points)

Creative Project: FINAL What is TheatreNow that you have explored some of the basic elements of theatre and performance revisit your original introduction video where you responded to the prompt “What is Theatre” you shared one thing you knew and one thing you were curious about. How have your thoughts changed, stayed the same or evolved? If you had to create a 2-3 minute or 2-3-page written piece explaining “What is Theatre” What would it include? Look like? How would you address acting, directing, lights, set, costumes, sound, world theatre, devised theatre, genre… Would you make a short film segment, podcast, slide show, newspaper article…How would you outline the piece so you could cover each topic and offer examples, stories or anecdotes that your audience/community would respond well to? Share your idea and how you would organize your presentation/piece. Be specific, Be detailed and Be Thorough. This is in preparation for your FINAL, so do the necessary research and planning.

Here is a sample outline you can use.

Take a look at the samples on OpenLab so you are clear on the level of detail and reflection expected.

Have a great week,

Week 11 Genre

Happy Monday,

I am really enjoying the Devised pieces I have received so far. I think we are going to have a powerful class piece. Remember, the subject of your creation should center around Identity and what that means to you. There is no right or wrong, just be open, honest and authentic. You can create music, a poem, dialog to perform, movement… the limit is your creativity. Be sure you send your pieces in mp3 or mp4 format so I can download them to make the class piece. If that will not work you can share them with me via Google Drive at arts.integrator@gmail.com. I need these no later than Friday, April 23rd by 12n EST in order to include then in the Class piece.

For those of you a little behind, we are at the midpoint so I suggest making your self a schedule/plan to get caught up in the next couple of weeks. If you need help or further support please let me know.

Week 10 “Devised Theatre” Midterm

Happy Monday,

I am really enjoying the World Theatre part 2 sharing’s. That said, if you are behind in submitting your weekly assignments now is a great time to get caught up as your midterm is next week. I would suggest looking at a calendar and planning realistically what you can get done each day and plan your time to make sure you get yourself back on track. All PHASE 1,2, & 3 Assignments must be completed by SUNDAY 4/18. That means Quizzes 1-9 and Discussion Boards 1-11.

Also, take the time to read the assigned chapters, or at the very least watch the corresponding videos so you have a solid frame of reference for answering the quiz questions with detail, examples and reference to text as well as integrating that knowledge into your weekly assignments.

DB 7: Costume Designs

Costume Designs: Choose a song from the musical you watched to write your review. Print the lyrics and analyze the piece. Break down the meaning, what is its purpose in the show, how does it forward the story, share emotion, could it stand alone as a monologue…? Keeping those details in mind, how would you design the costume of one of the characters performing the song?

What colors match the tone, what style is right for the time period, hair, shoes, accessories…If the character is moving or dancing how will the costume help them or prevent them from moving fluidly. Can they breathe well to support the song? How will the lighting effect the color/texture? All these considerations and more go into a costume design. You may free draw, use magazine cut outs or create your design using the computer. Design templates are available on BB as well. Explain your choices in the body of the post. Once completed take a pic and post to DB 7.
