Activity 1

In preparation for our reading of the ancient Greek tragedy Oedipus the King, please review the attached PowerPoint presentation  Greek Tragedies,

Activity 2

Please watch this fascinating 10-minute video, which illustrates and expands on some of the information in the Task 1 readings. I think you will enjoy it immensely.

Activity 3 

Theatrical mask of Zeus

This 10-minute video picks up from the History of Theatre Part 1, showing the development of Greek theater with specific reference to the play we will be reading, Oedipus the King.

Activity 4

Begin the reading of Oedipus the King from the Prologue to Page 10 (right hand column) at the point of [Enter JOCASTA]. Pay special attention to the developing characters of the protagonist, King Oedipus, Creon, and Teiresias.

Activity 5

Quiz 3: To access this test, navigate to your Blackboard course. Click on “Links to Quizzes” on the black navigation panel. Choose “Quiz 3.” The quiz covers formatting requirements for essays in ENG 201, as stipulated in the Format Matters video. Please make sure the essay you are about to submit meets all formatting requirements. The test is timed, and students have one hour to complete it. The quiz will be available from 9:00 a.m. Monday, March 2  to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 8. It will not be reopened after the closing date.

Essay 1 is due this Sunday, March 8. Directions appear on the Week 4 page, which reflects the date the assignment was posted.

Also, be sure to review formatting guide.

To submit, go to your Blackboard course. Click “Essay Submission Links” on the black navigation panel. Choose “Essay 1. Submission Link” and click on “View/Complete.”

Note: Please be sure that you are checking your progress in the Grade Center of your Blackboard course.
