    1. Hello, my name is Fabian Barbecho, I am majoring in Nursing and I’m taking Portuguese to learn a new language to speak to more people. Some topics of interest include their indigenous history, their dancing culture, and their coastal areas.

  1. Hi, my name is Aiyanna! My major is computer information systems. I decided to take Portuguese for two reasons. The first is because I learn languages for fun. The second is because my grandfather is from Guyana, a country that is next to Brazil. My topics of interest are music/dance, culture, food. I would also like to learn some common phrases/slang if possible.

  2. Hello, my name is Juan Lopez, my major is business management. I’m from Colombia I moved to New York a year and a half ago, I like to play soccer and video games. I decided to take Portuguese because freshmen year of high school I took Portuguese so I remember some basic stuff and also because Portuguese is very similar to Spanish.

  3. Hi! My name is Liliana. I am a paramedic major. Portuguese has always been a big part of my life, coming from a large Brazilian family. I am excited to better my Portuguese and become a doctor in Brazil one day! This semester I hope I can take away a lot and grow from this class. I attached a photo of my favorite soda from Brasil!

  4. My name is Ursula. I am taking this class because I have always taken a language class in school. Another reason is because I have Angolan friends who speak the language and I want to be at least able to comprehend a bit when we travel to Brazil one day which is on our bucket list. I would like to learn more about the different cultural groups in Brazil. I’m also excited to learn about the cuisines, the history behind them and maybe how to make the easier ones. One last topic that I deem interesting is to maybe learn about Brazilian dances. I’m African so cultural dances and Music are part of the integration of learning more about a country

    my name is Gily Fortuna, I’m from Dominican Republic and my major is Digital Marketing. Im taking Portuguese because I love the people, the language, the music and everything about Brazil ,the country is on my top 1 countries to visit and I want Portuguese be my 3rd language learned. 3 topics of my interest are to learn about their music and dance, best places to visit and culture.

  6. Hi, my name is Djibril. I was born and raised in the Bronx. My current major is Video Arts and Technology. The reason why I am taking Portuguese is because I already have some sort of familiarity with the language and some of the culture behind it (mostly through music) and would love to dive deep into it and hopefully use my skills for it one day out into the real world. Topics of interests I would love for the class to talk about is music, what are the cultural differences compared to America, and kinds of foods they enjoy.

  7. Hello my name is Joshua, I was born and raised in New York Im Colombian & Dominican. My current major is Liberal Arts i am doing my pre reqs for the nursing program. Im am taking Portuguese because i needed to take a language class and i chose this one because i am very familiar with the language. my cousins are brazilian and i grew up with them so i was around the food, music, culture. i would like to get a deeper understanding of the language and learn enough to have a conversation and not just only understand. 3 topics id like to learn more about is cultural diversity, cultural similarities and more music

I am taking this class because I’d like to know more languages and love to visit Brazil. I like listening to Brazilian funk sometimes, and besides that, I’d like to learn about the different music genres there are in Brazil. I’d like to learn more about the music, culture, and food.
