1- Law and order rhetoric helps one to maintain prior discriminatory policies while becoming “race-neutral.” It was no longer fashionable to use the rhetoric of a rabid racist after the Civil Rights Movement. Governments are able to keep to propose punitive legislation almost explicitly meant to oppress the black community by emphasizing on crime, and especially the concept of crime.
2- In today’s politics, I don’t believe the Souther Strategy has any impact. One of the numerous reasons is that, in today’s political climate, we can elect black governors, mayors, and district leaders, not to mention a black president again! we have a woman of color serving as Vice President of the United States. This would not be feasible if the Southern Policies were still in force. If this were still in place, many things would be impossible, including institutions, transportation, employment, income, and prejudice against people of color, which would be much more prevalent now.
