This website contains OER (Open Educational Resources) and ZTC (Zero Textbook Cost) resources for faculty teaching Introduction to Multimedia (MMP 100) at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC). These resources are freely available for use by BMCC faculty and beyond.
This resource site is a starting point. Faculty teaching individual MMP 100 sections can clone this site, or use it as an example, and adapt the syllabus, schedule and lessons. No part of this site, other than the syllabus, is mandatory.
MMP 100 is one of the foundations class for all majors in the Media Arts and Technology Department. It spans a wide range of media and software which the students will use throughout their studies. The goal of the course is to for students to learn the purpose of each tool and become familiar with their interfaces. At the end of the semester, the students should have five projects demonstrating they can create and/or manipulate digital images, audio, animation, 3D designs, and simple websites.
The content of the course has been divided into “Topics”. Each topic page includes core concepts and terminology, resources, sample assignments and grading rubrics. Faculty are welcome to and encouraged to use and adapt the examples, or create their own assignments, so long as they fulfill the Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs), found in the syllabus.
Each project should include documentation, including written description, appropriate citations for any Creative Commons source material used in the project. Students should also have the opportunity to give each other feedback.
We recommend the official CUNY LMS Brightspace for student work submission and faculty feedback and grading.
We welcome questions, comments, and requests for materials. Leave a reply below, or contact the course coordinators directly: Anna Pinkas (apinkas@bmcc.cuny.edu) and Owen Roberts (oroberts@bmcc.cuny.edu)
