Platforms and Scenery

Goals, Rewards, and Obstacles
The goals of this game are to complete each level without dying, while avoiding the obstacle. The rewards are the satisfaction of completing such challenge while the obstacles are the hidden platforms and creatures that appear when you least expect it.
Expectations
I’ve tried platformers before such as Trap Adventure 2, though it was much more infuriating compared to Syoban Action. As for the game itself, it still creates a new twist compared to typical platformers, making it into a unique experience for players.
Genre
Syoban Action is a 2D platforming game
Game Comment
Syoban Action is a difficult and frustrating platforming game, compared to calm and casual ones such as Mario. I believe it is making a comment on how games are no longer as difficult as they should be, posing no challenge for the players.

Setting & Genre

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a crossover-fighting game developed by Nintendo and Sora Ltd. director and creator, Masahiro Sakurai. Three visual elements that make this “celebration of gaming” stand out from its successor is the colossal number of stages that were implemented into the game, so it becomes complex to give a straight answer to a vague question on the setting of the game. The second visual element that is key to what makes this game a worldwide phenomenon is the option of allowing extra players to join. It makes the game more exciting, riveting the excitement for gamers and the third visual element is the lineup of playable characters, along with the inclusion of downloadable characters/content (DLC) that opens the window to choose their characters as they please.
Syoban Action – Daniel Mejia
1) The goal of Syoban Action is to make it to the goal, laid out in the first level of Super Mario Bros. Your job is to avoid obstacles and reach the flag pole.
2) As a platformer, the basic controls are moving from left to right to position yourself. Jump over obstacles that get in your way. simple, but the way the game makes you abide by its rules pulls a twist on the platforming genre.
3) If I could apply the game to another genre, I’d say an indie game. It’s made separately from any triple-A developers.
4) The game itself is paying homage to classic platformers while also giving itself its own identity.

Syoban Action
- What are the goals, obstacles and rewards of the game?
The goal of the game is basically to reach the end of the level. Obstacles are hidden enemies and troll platforming. The rewards are to beat the level while maintaining your sanity.
2. How does the game play with expectations of the platformer video game genre?
The game plays pretty well despite being a complete troll of a Mario game. Platforms can disappear randomly and enemies spawn or come out of nowhere to piss you off. Overall, with lots of trials and errors and precise timing, you will get by.
3. What genre would you apply to this game?
The genre would be a 2D platformer.
4. What comment is the game making on video games in general? Is it making a comment or is it just a joke?
I believe this game is meant to be a joke due to the unfairness and the fact that it’s a parody Mario game. The fact that it’s extremely difficult, yet hilarious draws people in and makes it a fun experience overall.

Syobon Action
- The goal in Syoban Action is to reach the end of the game, the obstacles are the various traps and enemies the player must avoid, and there is really no conventional reward except the satisfaction of beating the game since it is excruciatingly difficult.
2. Because the game is designed to look like Mario it gives the player a sense of familiarity about how it should work. The game plays with expectations with cleverly hidden traps that most platformers would not use.
3. Aside from being a platformer I think that this game could fit in the puzzle genre since it requires experimenting to figure out each following move.
4. Syobon Action is a commentary on the gradual decline in difficulty video games have shown over the years. Big game companies tend to make games generally easy in order to reach a wider demographic. Indie games on the other hand can provide a much more challenging experience since they don’t fall into this trend.
Unexpected Moments:

In other platformers enemies don’t usually spawn from item boxes. At least not so early on in the game

I was expecting the cloud to just be part of the background but it turned out to be a hidden trap.

Reaching the flag generally marks the completion of a level so I did not expect for there to be a trap at the end as well.
1. What are the goals, obstacles, and rewards of the game?
The goal of the game is to reach the level and enter the flag to finish the level. Just like Super Mario Bros level parody, but that game might be different. The obstacles are the enemies are hidden on some platforms. The level is totally unfair and the level is challenging because of troll platforms. The reward for that game is to pass the level, but you will rescue a kidnapped person in the final castle.
2. How does the gameplay with expectations of the platformer video game genre?
This game has many funniest platforms that you will fall and losing lives but is infinity. If you step onto the platform, it will drop to the end. In the background, you see a cloud, but it is part of the enemies and the cloud will kill you too. Enemies are hidden on those platforms, such as blocks and pipes. Also, there is an invisible block where there is a hole below the platform.
3. What Genre would you apply for this game?
I think that this game can be 2D-platform game.
4. What comment is the game making on video games in general? Is it making a comment or is it just a joke?
I think that people make the funniest comments to see that the game is unfair, but is funny to play for a while.
Syoban Action – Elijah Moyd
1) The goal of the game is to basically reach the end. Despite a clear assessment, the obstacles provided are pipes, moving objects similar to mario
2) The game play quite well with the role of platformers, provided with the momentum and timing of such obstacles along with pace can cause players to have a sense of timing and precision to avoid getting caught/hit
3) A genre that i can place this besides platformers would be adventure since it gives off a quest vibe and a challenge to the finish
4) The game itself is paying a bit of homage to classical platformers, however, it can also be percieved as a sense of humor for modern gaming since it is a bit of a parody of another game.

Floor collapsed after landing on it.

Trapped under blocks, unable to escape.
