The main goal that the player has to achieve is heavily reminiscent of the 1980 Super Mario Bros. game: to reach the pole in order to save Princess Peach. Obstacles that become a challenge for the player are the small circles that head in the player’s direction on ground, along with the clouds and the enemies that spawn out of the green pipe and at the end of the game. Some rewards that were seen are coins, as in how they’re attained in Super Mario Bros. and power-ups like the mushrooms. However, when playing as the cat Mario, there are some major flaws in what makes for a completely balanced game and Syobon Action severely lacks those qualities. What becomes the common denominator is how there’s no balance or structure that holds the game together. There would be no bonus level for the player to play in as they enter down in the pipes. Instead, it takes them up and start the game from the beginning. One checkpoint appears for the player to respawn at whenever they’re faced with a small variety of obstacles in their way, along with the inclusion of an enemy that attacks the player when reaching the end goal and the cloud killing the player when they come into close contact with it. This type of gaming platform would fall directly under the platform genre due to it’s concept of causing frustration for the player and having a sense of self-deprecating humor just to poke fun at the concept of the game at its core. This would be labeling as a game meant for enjoyment, but rather a joke that becomes mind boggling and aggravating for the game user.
Obstacles and Rewards
Wolf: When the player moves left or right, the wolf will come in the player’s direction and attack them.
Dagger: daggers will spawn as soon as the player proceeds forward with the level.
Emeralds: the emeralds will increase the player’s amount of collected chess pieces up by 10, as well as their exp. points.
Teardrop Emerald: if the player’s sustains a significant amount of damage accumulated by an obstacle or enemy, the teardrop emerald will replenish their health.
Phoenix Tears: if the player dies, the phoenix tears will revive them, granting the player another life when obtained.
Spikes: if the players jumps on the spikes, it will deplete their health by 10%.
The character in my game is the Red Shoes. The main goal is to avoid or beat the obstacle – Poop which has a masculine appearance. The rewards are coins located on the Brick Platforms. In order to beat the Poop player should collect the coins to exchange them for the Blue Fly swatter.

Midterm: “Ocular”
My game is called “Ocular” the current objective of the game is simply to collect 20 gems. In this world, the eyes control everything and are always— watching!
Currently my title menu is a bit broken and needs a lot more work. I will be updating the art soon and fixing those looking crazy margins.
My game features a large eyed moon inspired by LoZ’s Majoria’s Mask and a medium city scape. Each building in the city has small bright red lights on each one, similar to the eyed moon and enemies.
I used this to try and imply that the sight of the red color, marks some sort of danger or hostile. Due to the color’s of my platforms though I feel like the danger of “red” isn’t coming across too well, so I will probably work on reworking the color schemes a bit.
My game over screen also need a little fixing with the buttons being too dark and blending in with the scenery. I will most likely be redesigning all the buttons.
