User Testing Results for Wendigold

Playability

Every player was able to figure out how to play the game so I don’t really need to make any changes to the controls.

Difficulty

Overall most players found the game to be pretty easy. I would want my game to be a bit more challenging so I might go back and add more obstacles.

Walking Speed and Jump Force

These were two very important questions because this is what I was most concerned with. Overall most players were satisfied with the walk speed so I will leave that as it is. However, most players thought the jump force was too high. If I have the camera follow the player it might take care of this issue.

I’m glad to see that everyone was able to make it to end of the level.

User Testing Result for Metal Jacket

Result from the survey:

Some people complain the game has a little controllability issues, something that I’m afraid of before the game went live. I will try to fix this by optimizing the collision model.

The respond for pathfinding is in the range where I’d like.

I want my game to be a little challenging, but adding a few more platforms won’t hurt.

One person said improve calligraphy is pretty funny but I just need them to funtion nothing more.

Metal Jacket needs more polishing but I like the result.

Again, reports of jumps being difficult. Will address that.

I noticed the 3rd level has a impossible jump too. I will fix that. I wish I can give the tanks more intractions like shooting their cannons and missles. But for the sake of time I can’t do anything about it.

Improvements to do list:

Collision optimization

Difficulty and jumps

Imppsible jumps in 3rd level

User Testing Results for Soultaker

Here is the link to my survey:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScdPYTGF6YHSJVP69hm6kbm5xpNtIYCgPIYT8pgeO2O3kBftg/viewform?usp=sf_link

Here are some of the results from my survey:

Everyone who played my game found it easy to play.
I’m happy with the difficulty being relatively easy, I will try to ramp up the difficulty in later levels.
I personally am happy for the playtime of this because it is meant to be a short and simple level 1.
One of the people who played my game described the hitbox for the last enemy being off so they couldn’t beat the game. They also didn’t bother restarting to replay and try to beat it, so this motivates me to make my game more engaging for the player.

Here are the detailed feedback from people who played my game. Moving forward I’m definitely going to look into fixing the obstacles of my game and making the visuals super good so that playing it becomes smoother and more enjoyable. I will also fix the bugs with the instruction screen as more than one of my players had that problem.

Syobon Action a.k.a. Cat Mario commentary

When players enters the pipe; taking them out and restart from beginning
Player reaches the end and enemy spawns, causing the player to spawn and play from checkpoint
Proceeding forward when platform falls along with the player

The main goal that the player has to achieve is heavily reminiscent of the 1980 Super Mario Bros. game: to reach the pole in order to save Princess Peach. Obstacles that become a challenge for the player are the small circles that head in the player’s direction on ground, along with the clouds and the enemies that spawn out of the green pipe and at the end of the game. Some rewards that were seen are coins, as in how they’re attained in Super Mario Bros. and power-ups like the mushrooms. However, when playing as the cat Mario, there are some major flaws in what makes for a completely balanced game and Syobon Action severely lacks those qualities. What becomes the common denominator is how there’s no balance or structure that holds the game together. There would be no bonus level for the player to play in as they enter down in the pipes. Instead, it takes them up and start the game from the beginning. One checkpoint appears for the player to respawn at whenever they’re faced with a small variety of obstacles in their way, along with the inclusion of an enemy that attacks the player when reaching the end goal and the cloud killing the player when they come into close contact with it. This type of gaming platform would fall directly under the platform genre due to it’s concept of causing frustration for the player and having a sense of self-deprecating humor just to poke fun at the concept of the game at its core. This would be labeling as a game meant for enjoyment, but rather a joke that becomes mind boggling and aggravating for the game user.

Setting and Genre

Valheim is a sandbox and survival game, based around viking culture. It is developed by Iron Gate Studio, and is currently still in its alpha stages.

A screenshot showing the building parts of the game. Here are some structures I’ve created in the past.
How to Destroy and Delete Items in Valheim | Valheim
Hunger and weight are both crucial when it comes to the surviving genre of the game. You need to be well fed in order to gain more health points and stamina, while weight shows how much you can carry at once. Go over the weight limit and you will be encumbered, meaning you cannot gain more stamina while moving.
On the sandbox genre, each world is generated differently but all the goals are the same.

Syoban Action

The main goal for Syoban Action is to make it to the other side of the map without dying. The obstacles are the enemies and the map itself. The main reward is successfully making it across the map. This game plays with the expectations of platformers by flipping every logical thought that most players have with a baited trick that could lead the player to their doom. This game is still a platformer though. I think it’s making a comment on just how much less difficult video games have become. It was a bit refreshing to see how difficult this game was. It wasn’t as annoying as I thought it would be. It kept me alert.

The platform fell
I was trapped
I hit my head on one of the hidden blocks and fell to my doom
