Syobon Action a.k.a. Cat Mario commentary

When players enters the pipe; taking them out and restart from beginning
Player reaches the end and enemy spawns, causing the player to spawn and play from checkpoint
Proceeding forward when platform falls along with the player

The main goal that the player has to achieve is heavily reminiscent of the 1980 Super Mario Bros. game: to reach the pole in order to save Princess Peach. Obstacles that become a challenge for the player are the small circles that head in the player’s direction on ground, along with the clouds and the enemies that spawn out of the green pipe and at the end of the game. Some rewards that were seen are coins, as in how they’re attained in Super Mario Bros. and power-ups like the mushrooms. However, when playing as the cat Mario, there are some major flaws in what makes for a completely balanced game and Syobon Action severely lacks those qualities. What becomes the common denominator is how there’s no balance or structure that holds the game together. There would be no bonus level for the player to play in as they enter down in the pipes. Instead, it takes them up and start the game from the beginning. One checkpoint appears for the player to respawn at whenever they’re faced with a small variety of obstacles in their way, along with the inclusion of an enemy that attacks the player when reaching the end goal and the cloud killing the player when they come into close contact with it. This type of gaming platform would fall directly under the platform genre due to it’s concept of causing frustration for the player and having a sense of self-deprecating humor just to poke fun at the concept of the game at its core. This would be labeling as a game meant for enjoyment, but rather a joke that becomes mind boggling and aggravating for the game user.

Platforms & Scenery

The platforms and scenery harks back to the third season of High School DxD (Born) where Issei and his friends travel to the underworld. The triangle platforms are rocks for Issei to jump on, whereas the clouds and the sky are supposed to reflect back on the battle between Issei and Shalba Beezlebub. I plan on adding in a few more elements.

Setting & Genre

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a crossover-fighting game developed by Nintendo and Sora Ltd. director and creator, Masahiro Sakurai. Three visual elements that make this “celebration of gaming” stand out from its successor is the colossal number of stages that were implemented into the game, so it becomes complex to give a straight answer to a vague question on the setting of the game. The second visual element that is key to what makes this game a worldwide phenomenon is the option of allowing extra players to join. It makes the game more exciting, riveting the excitement for gamers and the third visual element is the lineup of playable characters, along with the inclusion of downloadable characters/content (DLC) that opens the window to choose their characters as they please.

Goals, Obstacles & Rewards in Dying Light

Dying Light is one of my favorite games to play on PlayStation 4. It was published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developed by Techland, released on January 27, 2015. Dying Light is an open-world survival/horror and action adventure game played from the first person perspective.

Goals

The story centers around a viral zombie outbreak in the city of Harran, whereas a man named Kyle Crane, an undercover GRE operative, was sent on a mission to infiltrate the quarantine zone and to locate a man by the name of Rais. Then, he becomes faced with the decision on whether to save all survivors or seeing his mission through.

Obstacles that are faced while playing

While playing as Crane, players are faced with having to kill zombies and human enemies. When nighttime hits, players will have to use Crane’s “Survivor Sense” to avoid detection by the infected. If the players is right within the infected zombie’s vicinity, the infected senses will trigger and start attacking players. A colossal group of zombies will be drawn to loud noises that are scattered across the city, so players will have to run, arm traps to reduce the number of zombies, or stay on the rooftops.

Rewards that are earned

Players are given a wide variety of options to choose from. They can kill zombies and search the bodies for money, items to craft new weapons, or valuables (cigarettes, pouches, money, etc.) that they can sell to earn more money. Chests, lockers and doors are scattered throughout the city. While some can easily be opened, others will require a lockpick. When players take on side quests, continue with the main story, claim air drop supplies, or save random survivors, they will be rewarded with new weapons, money, weapon blueprints, or exp. points for their character’s level and attributes.
