For my Audio podcast, I used Audacity to add audio effects like, fade in and out, and the envelope tool to reduce the volume of the audio. I got my audio sounds from Free Music Archives and FreeSounds. In my podcast, I am talking about a new temporary exhibit that is coming to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. I used four audios, my voice, music, whale and ocean sound. The most challenging part of this project was coming up with what I wanted to talk about on the audio. I have never done a podcast before and it had me vary nervous, but when I was walking around the museum I saw a trucks unloading the collections of the exhibit and that gave me the inspiration.
Description: I am sitting inside a cafe and doing my homework. It’s a busy city and it’s raining outside. It’s a calm environment and there are also some people inside the cafe. The sounds I used are: a background music track, raining sound, traffic sound, thunder sound, and people talking in the background sound. To be honest, I found this project a bit easier than the previous one. Working on the software while listening to the lecture helped me a lot.

My audio portrait is about a soldier experiencing a concussion-induced dream during combat in the Gulf War. As explosions erupt all around him and chaos reigns on the battlefield, the main character is knocked unconscious by an explosion. In his disoriented state between waking and dreaming, he envisions a soothing glimpse of the peaceful life he knew before the horrors of combat.
For this Audio Portrait, I decided to show what it likes when I ride in Prospect Park. I usually go bike riding in the warmer seasons so you would hear things like the ice cream truck, people jogging, and dogs playing in the park.
I used Audacity to stitch together audio clips and modified them with effects like fade-in and fade-out and volume levels to create a short story. I wanted to create a storyline from a point of view perspective. My story is about a person falling asleep at work and having an interesting journey in his dreams. He goes to the beach in his dream and has a dream vacation. I used 10 pieces of audio for this piece. I searched on YouTube and other places for good quality and useable clips that would fit into my story. I used some fade-in and out effects and had to modify the volume levels quite a bit to make my idea work. The most challenging part was creating a story that was coherent and worked with the audio clips I could find. I think I understand why people storyboard projects now. It’s easier that way.
It is my Podcast and in this episode, I have shared a cat store, especially introducing the background music of the store, the white noises. I combine five sounds, including recording my cat’s purring and meowing. The effects I used are delay and fade in and out.
For my audio portrait, I read and interpreted the Langston Hughes poem, “Dream Deferred.” When we get to the editing part of the project, I’ll add music and simple fade ins and outs.
