My Podcast Audio

Waves of Time

Spring 2024

Software: Audacity

For my audio project, I used a soundtrack that I made in my MUS123 class. I also used a video that was taken a few years ago when I was in high school during Tennis practice, my coach was asking me to help him carry stuff. Then I converted the video to MP3 and I added the delay effect. As for the other sounds, they’re all from freesound.org and I used fading for transition between sounds.

Title: I Hate School

Spring 2024

Software: Audacity

I decided to make a sound that goes over why I hate school. My focus was to use a recording I made on my guitar that’s layered with random sounds like people or crowds talking. The idea is that during school, I’m usually listening to music to drown out the noise of people talking because everyone honestly talks way too loud in the halls. I use automation, fade in’s, fade outs, reverb, delays, and I even did a method where I panned on snippet to the left ear without reverb, and other with reverb to the right ear and mismatched their timing a bit to give a cool effect. Overall, it was really fun!

Audio Portrait of a Place

TITLE: What Goes On Out There?

BY: Mike Maier

SEMESTER/YEAR: Spring 2024

SOFTWARE: Audacity

For this project I used all original media and sounds. For the song that plays throughout the project I recorded myself playing drums, guitar, and bass in GarageBand and used the master recording as the music in Audacity. Some of the sounds I used were sounds I hear outside of my apartment everyday. The first sound is that of a ConEd tow truck towing a car that was in the way of a manhole cover that needed emergency work. The second sound is of the birds chirping outside my bathroom window with the faint sound of a helicopter in the distance. The third sound was my dog Sheena barking at me, and the last sound is the F train pulling into the Carroll Street station.

My main objective with the project was to automate the volume of the song in such a way to make it lower when each sound played so the sound was front and center while still being able to hear the music.

All songs and sounds were recorded by me.

Credit goes to me for the song, Sheena for the barks, ConEd for the tow truck sound, the birds and the helicopter, and the MTA for the sound of the F train.

Bad Dream

Title: Bad Dream

Semester/Year: Spring 2024

Software: Audacity

By making this audio, I really wanted the listener to be able to close their eyes and create their own visual that goes along with this ‘Bad Dream’. I wanted to create an off-putting, disturbing but not sure why it feels disturbing type of feel. Not quite horror but just that something is wrong – the feeling of dread. And then the sound of relief at the end, which is someone waking from a bad dream.

Audio Portrait of a Place

Title: Dad by Day, Chef by Night

Spring 2024

Software: Audacity

For my audio project, I wanted the listener to to experience a day in the life of someone who takes care of his kids during the day and works in a restaurant at night and after it’s all over with, he finally gets some peace and quiet. I did so by combining six sounds using Audacity. I started off with a drumbeat and transitioned into street noise, kids playing, restaurant noise, and finally into some crickets. I liked working with effects like fading in and out to help with the progression of the story.

Tittle: Spooky Story

Spring 2024

Software: Audacity

For my audio story, audacity played a big role in helping me combine more than one sound together into one. In audacity i was able to add little sound effects in between sounds which helps make the story even more scarier.

Title: The Richard Podcast

Spring 2024

Software:Audacity

For my Audio podcast I used Audacity to add effects like loops, and fading and I sourced my music from Free Music Archive as well as my other sound effects from Freesound.org. The most challenging part of the project was the amount of time that went into doing the work as well as trying to sync up the sounds and making sure that they meshed well and was not all over the place

Title: Shakespeare in the BMCC Library

Spring 2024

Software: Audicity

For my audio project, I produced a pilot episode of Shakespeare in the BMCC library. Hopefully it gets picked up and we can have more episodes. I layered in music, sounds, and added the SHHH at the end to bring us back into the library. I played with fading in and out, and levels. I learned that this software can be very volatile at times. I couldn’t delete a portion of a clip because there was a highlighted part that was in the header of a clip. Took me forever to figure that out.

Audio project

for my audio project, I read and gave my interpterion of the poem “A Dream Deferred” by Langston Hughess in the style of a calm podcast. I chose to read a poem due to my love of Langston Hughess works and literature in general. I used several effects on this project such as fade in, fade out, and the envelope tool.
