love at first sight…(short comic) by yae lewis

I chose to tell a love story between these two people because I just enjoy writing love stories. I mainly used Procreate to draw the pictures and then I took the last two panels into After Effects to add the video in the back of them. I edited together two animations that I had made in the past using After Effects and applied them here for the animation requirement. it added more to the comic and I’m satisfied with how it turned out. I wish I’d found better ways to display the animation because the gif came out static-y and I didn’t enjoy that. the gifs were also really big in terms of file size so it made my computer move slowly. next time I will explore more ways to display videos without the hassle. for the designs I chose colors that contrasted each other and made it clear that the two individuals are opposites, I like the opposites attract concept when making these types of stories. I don’t know how people will perceive this, but I hope they look at this and see a harmless onesided love story of someone being starstruck by someone else’s beauty. the most challenging part was the code, I don’t have much experience with it and I tried different things to make the website interactive but nothing felt cool enough to me. I solved this problem by keeping it simple and looking at the previous class examples by the professor.

all images and videos were made/owned by me.

mad libs (programming) project by yae lewis

Title: mad libs

semester/year: 2023 fall

software: html, css, javascript and replit.com

links: website and project file

my story is a spin on a classic fairy tale with someone in a castle and a knight to save them.the user should type in the information and it should be incorporated in a story that makes sense. i chose for the user to type in their answers because i think like the story feels more authentic and genuine that way. the most challenging part was the typos and errors, i couldn’t fully understand what was wrong at times but going through the code slowly and carefully looking for typos.

my game is about either elliot or sara, whomever you choose, having a normal day at school that takes a weird turn. there are two endings total (a good and a bad ending) and there is also an option you can choose that leads to a mysterious story event that leaves you with questions! enjoy playing!

title: switching positions

semester: 2023/fall

software: after effects

i decided to animate to a song, it’s one of my favorite songs and I wanted to go for an overall happy vibe. i chose shapes that I liked, round shapes, hearts, and stars. the colors came from the album cover being green and after I was bored with that I started to hue it more and more toward red, ultimately ending on that. as for the text and/or accents, I just slightly made them more saturated and brighter/desaturated and darker so it stays cohesive. the timing came from the song, I tried to use text to match up the words on time and make the transitions go with the beat. I think the most challenging part of this assignment was coming up with more creative ways to display text or do typography, something I think I struggle with outside of this assignment.

podcast with e! by yae lewis

semester: 2023/fall

software: audacity

Originally I wanted to record Manhattan and just appreciate the city life but I decided to do a person instead of a place. This is a conversation between my best friend and I. I decided to make it more podcast-driven. We didn’t talk about much because of the time limit, we let the conversation flow because we didn’t have a specific topic or anything, and eventually, I decided to use this part for our 25-minute recording. At this part, we were talking about being human, writing in cursive, and just generally setting up. It feels unofficial which I like and it’s overall just a chill conversation. We are both huge cat people so I put a cat-inspired track in the back as music and bleeped out any curse words with the sounds of meows. I also chopped up and combined different parts of the audio to make for a smooth-sounding conversation. I used a reverb effect to end the record because I thought it needed something, and I used various fade-ins/outs to emphasize dramatics or make for smoother transitions. I think the most challenging part of this project was the editing, but I solved It by looking back at the demos and refreshing my memory.

title: dancing in my room

semester/year: fall 2023

software: photoshop

I chose these images because I knew I wanted to create an atmosphere that had things I liked in them. pink is my favorite color so I hued the bedroom to match that. I edited two photos of cats together to show the cat listening to music while holding an iPad, I did this because I love music, drawing on my iPad, and cats. if you look at the background there is a switch and a Sanrio poster, I like the Sanrio characters and sometimes like to draw. I combined 7 images. the most challenging part was holding back, I didn’t want to use too many images so it was hard trying to keep things to a minimum.

title: me but im a vampire

semester/year: fall 2023

software: illustrator

This project represents because it has my favorite shapes, colors, and my likenesses. My inspiration was me of course, and the concept of vampires. I decided to make myself one while also having those bright colors (pink and purple) to fit my aesthetic and personality. I think the most challenging part of the project was using Illustrator, I overcame this by experimenting and rewatching the demos.
