A type specimen is a promotional material for a typeface. It showcases the type design and demonstrates to designers how it would look in different sizes and arrangements. Check out examples of type specimens in the links below.
For this assignment, design a type specimen flyer that promotes one typeface of your choice. It can be one of the 5 classic typefaces or another typeface that fits into one of the following classification groups:
- Old Style
- Transitional
- Modern
- Slab Serif or Clarendon
- Sans Serif (Grotesque, Geometric or Humanist)
Do not choose a display/decorative or script typeface.
You must include the following elements:
- Typeface name
- Typeface designer
- Year it was designed
In addition, in order to showcase the design of the typeface and how it can be used, include any of the following:
- Samples of the full upper and lowercase alphabets
- A pull quote about the type
- A couple of paragraphs on the history of the typeface
- Enlarged individual letter(s)
- Any use of the typeface that demonstrates the way it looks in different sizes and styles.
Format: letter size page. Black and white, optional: one additional color.
Consider the size of the page when you select the number of elements to include and their size.
