Gwen Gee Week 3 Prompt 2

We have seen that many early animated films, particularly in the US, were based on print comics. Why do you think that is? What was there about comics that would make them an appropriate subject for film?

I think the reason we have a lot of early animated films in the US based on print comics is that the media being consumed at the time during war times is when comics became popular since it was a way to pass the time and eventually to create more content and generate more money creating films seem to be the next step in that process to have. What I think would make it appropriate was money to spend to create more content.

Gwen Gee week 2 Prompt two

Well look at the cave paintings and the shadow puppetry forms we see a similarity in the aspect of the Shadow paintings that we see in the caves they look almost as if they were moving pictures against the fire. when we take another look at Shadow puppetry we can see the similar idea of making illustrations or figures move across the screen with the manipulation of the world around. For example “Artists at Lascaux used fire to see inside caves, but the glow and flicker of flames may also have been integral to the stories the paintings told” (https://nautil.us/early-humans-made-animated-art-234819/ ) meaning this was possibly on of the first forms of animation that we have seen That can have a storyline and from what I understood from the article that storyline could have been the tales that Hunters would tell in the cave to their families. Then when we look at shadow puppets That isn’t far off from what we read in the article early humans made animated art we can tie the idea that the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IwhLjj9Hkk) and the article both show how people at these times were working on ways to entertain themselves by telling stories. When looking through the video we can understand the significance that shadow puppetry has in a Gold to tell a story with a  beginning, middle, and end

Name an animated film or tv show that you like. Why do you think you like it?  Is it the characters, the animation techniques? Include this in the journal post. Research the studio/artist that created it as well as the date it was created and include this information in your post.

An animated TV show that I’m enjoying at the moment is Danny Phantom a show from my childhood that just never seems to lose its touch even with me now in college. The reason why I like that program is due to the designs of the characters, along with the personalities of each character how those personalities can create conflict with one another, and how some of these characters you may not think would work together work very well even with the difference in personalities. The man who made the show was Butch Hartman he worked for Nickelodeon from 1997 to 2018  at the time when producing Danny Phantom as well as making Fairly Odd Parents at the same time. Both are some of the few faces standing with Spongebob to be part of the branding of Nickelodeon. Danny Phantom was released on April 3rd, 2004, and ran for a little over three years getting 3 seasons ending on August 24th, 2007. Similar to Fairly OddParents which is one of  Butch Hartman’s other projects he was working on at the time. Danny Phantom was a hand-drawn animation similar to the other shows Hartman has worked on.
