I’ve decided to use “A Colour Box” by Len Lye since I liked how the movements of the shapes and colors sort of “danced along” with the music behind it. I greatly like the aesthetic as it is very abstract and the animation itself is pretty rapid. I’m going to look more into how this piece was made and hopefully find out why the artist chose to make it and why they chose to depict their animation this way. Possibly, mentioning their other works and comparing the two.

Prompt 2
I think the reason a lot of early animated films made in the US were based on print comics was because of their popularity and familiarity with the viewers as well as their fanbase. By converting comics into animated films, studios could capitalize on this idea with characters and stories among comic book readers. As a visual medium, it works best with film as it makes storytelling and character development a lot more entertaining and engaging with their audience.
Prompt 3
If I were at one of Gaspard Robertson’s “Fantasmagorie” shows in 1797, I’d be a bit in fear like everyone else, but also fascinated. Things of the supernatural such as demons, ghosts, skeletal beings, and such are very interesting to me and I find them more appealing to the eye. I would think that the same would go for horror films from any era or region of the world. I personally really enjoy the detailing and sculpting of bat-winged skulls on Robertson’s tomb. It sets the “paranormal aesthetic” he incorporated into his shows.
My favorite show would be The Amazing World of Gumball. It is a sitcom made by Ben Bocquelet and aired first on Cartoon Network on May 3rd, 2011. I used to watch all the episodes when they came on as a kid. The two main characters, Gumball and Darwin, were entertaining and I enjoyed the different art styles and current media references they added in certain episodes.
Hello, my name is Cassandra Cortez and I am majoring in Animation and Motion Graphics.
I mainly chose this course to expand on ways I can express myself through my art than just a still image. I enjoy the Studio Ghibli art style and semi-realistic digital/traditional art. My main goal is to become a freelance artist/animator and share my animations with others. Oh, I also have two 5-year-old cats and I enjoy making body-horror illustrations. <3
