Carl Charleston Week 4 – Short Paper Outline

I will use the film “Disney Dumbo” in 1941. This became one of my favorite animated movies when I was young. Special effects took me back to how animated humans and animals interact with one another and how impactful I felt throughout the main character’s journey. As I grew older, I started to understand it more and what was the lesson behind the film.

Felix the Cat gives the correct feeling when I think of Mickey Mouse or any classical icon that’s all black and white with no other existing colors at the time. The way the motion characters move, behave, and interact with the surrounding environment pleases the audience with special effects as the characters move smoothly with stop motion.

Carl Charleston Week 2 – Prompt 2

Cave painting was the first step from which all types of art came, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, architecture, impressionism, theater, abstract, expressionism, cinema, and digital arts. It was the only thing our ancestors could look back to and understand their way of life, what the world was like through their eyes, and how they expressed them.

Magic Lantern, to me, felt like the origin of how images shown on television came to be in this current age. Émile Reynaud’s Théâtre Optique felt like the core of all classic cartoon TV shows due to his magnificent device that involved hand-painted, animated, and moving images. I’m more accustomed to animation, and this felt like the origin of where my art skill comes from. Charles-Èmile Reynauld’s Théâtre Optique, 1892

Carl Charleston – Prompt 1

My name is Carl Charleston. I found this course interesting cause it involves art history, and I’ve been quite fond of art since childhood. Drawing and soon doing digital art became my passion. My major is animation and motion graphics; I’m interested in learning 2D animation and creating 2D art in the future. My career goal is to build a business that expresses my devotion to art and introduce my ideal characters inspired by previous cartoon show characters. In my spare time, I usually write stories before I draw out how I want them to be visualized, and I enjoy eating snacks to keep me occupied.
