Kwamel Robinson- Week 4

The short film I will choose is called “Opus I”. The reason for choosing this is due to how aesthetic and eye-catching it was at first glance. You are given an array of colors and shapes that is accompanied with music. This creates a flow in my mind that relaxes me- sorta like how some people resort to measures for stress relief- orchestra sometimes soothes my mind of it’s stress and troubles.

I may have forgot the outline part. I’m unsure of that part. if you do see this, can you respond to this so I can know what to add?

The short film I chose to write about is The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926).

I was immediately drawn to the film when I heard the inspiration for this film is from one of the stories in an Arabic book called 1001 nights which is a book I’ve read and loved and I was interested in seeing the inspiration within the film. The technique that was used in the film is what stood out to me the most because it was so artistically detailed.

-The person who created the animation

-The development of how the film was made

– techniques that were used

-Where the inspiration is from

-What happened after it was made and how it affected the film industry.

The short film I will be focusing on is Gertie the Dinosaur. I was drawn to this film because I love how smooth the movements of Gertie are and how it must have been very new for people when it came out. I have seen the animation many times before but I have never really dived deep into it. Some elements that I will be focusing on are how Gertie the Dinosaur was a stepping stone for modern animation and diving deep into the processes such as keyframing and paper animation that are so important to the industry today. Additionally, I want to talk about how creating a convincing character was portrayed by Gertie the Dinosaur as Winsor McCay most likely had to put a lot of time and effort studying dinosaurs to create Gertie in a way that was simple to animate but still gave the audience the idea of a dinosaur as it is not a current living creature.

Erikson Wang- W4

The Film that I’m going to be writing about is “Gertie the Dinosaur”

Since I am very interested in history, Winsor McCay’s film is what introduced animation to our world. Winsor McCay’s film prove to us that animation can feel realistic and true to our eyes. he’s the one that open up the doors of animation.

The Subject of this Short Writing:

– Development of this Animation

– The Developer of this Animation

– How did they come up with the idea

-What happened after the film was out.

“The Adventures of Prince Achmed” by Lotte Reininger is regarded as one of the first animated feature films, and was released in 1926. With a running time of 1 hour and 7 minutes, a film of such artistic caliber and length had never been seen before.
Not only is the film visually stunning, both in color and technique, but Lotte Reininger was an artistic mastermind and a female! Several vital elements of Reininger’s film, as well as her background, warrant recognition.
*Reininger’s utilization of the “Scherenschnitte” technique
*The original score that was composed in collaboration with the film, utilizing photograms created by Reininger
*Reiningers inspiration to produce short films and who her artistic partners were
*How her environment impacted her choice of story content
*”The Adventures of Prince Achmed” and the impact the film had on animated feature films that followed

Tal Sharir – Short Paper Outline

The film I chose for my short paper is Silly Symphonies – the skeleton dance.

The reason why I chose this film is that I’m very drawn to the combination between both the animation and the music. I’ve loved this animation since I was very young. This is one of the very first animations of Disney, and also one of the first animations where they wrote the music alongside the animation. I think it would be an exciting topic for me to write about.

The elements I will be writing about –

  1. Ub Iwerks and his early work with Disney.
  2. Silly symphony series and its impact.
  3. On making this film and the story that stands behind it.
  4. The recognition of the film.
  5. The effect of synchronized sound on the industry of animated films.
  6. Later works of animation and all forms of art (movies, music, paintings, dances) that were influenced by this animation.
