I’ve loved watching this film since it was released on December 11, 2009, and what I like about it is that it centers around the main character who is a young Black woman and that is something that is not really shown in a lot of animation films. One of my favorite works of animation ever is Avatar: The Last Airbender. I love the Character designs, the story, the backgrounds, and the message. I just feel the show is a perfect balance of everything and the creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko at Nickelodeon Animation Studios did an amazing job making a story with very mature themes.

I picked this course because It is a requirement for my major. I like anime animation but other animation too. My Major is Motion and Animation. My hobbies are that I like to draw and I like going to the gym and working on my purpose.

Tal Sharir – Prompt 1

I’m majoring in science engineering and looking to be a biomedical engineer. I am passionate about this field of study because of the possibilities for better health that can be achieved. My hobbies include reading, yoga, watching TV and listening to music. The reason why I picked this course is because I enjoy watching animation and would love to know more about it and broaden my knowledge in this field.

I’m a huge foody, and I enjoy cooking as well as trying new restaurants all the time. I avoid spicy food, which is why I’m considered the picky eater in my family (everyone in my family LOVES spicy food).

Fun fact about me to conclude this thread- I have a twin sister.

Thank you for reading!

Kaijie Sun W1

My name is Kaijie but I generally go by Kai. I picked this course because I am interested in animations, mainly anime. There are a few genres of animations that I am into, some of them are action and romance. My major is Animation and Motion Graphics and currently I don’t exactly have a goal. Animation just happens to be the topic that I am into in this school. Some hobbies I have are making origami, a little cooking, and trying voice acting.

One of my favorite anime is a new Chinese anime called Throne of Seal. The character designs and the effects of animation are really cool. Certain animations can make certain moments breathtaking and allow you to see the perspective of the characters which I find very interesting. This anime is an adaptation of a manga written by a famous Chinese writer called Tang Jia San Shao. The studio that made this anime is called Shenman Entertainment that is located in Changsha. It is stated that the company are “based on the production of domestic high-quality animation and film and television products, and has a full range of CG development capabilities such as dynamic cartoons, 3D animations, and virtual idols”

Taniyah Chisolm W1

Hello! My name is Taniyah Chisolm and I picked this course because I love animation and I hope to pursue it as a career in the future. My major is Animation and Motion Graphics and this is my last semester here. I love 2D animation and, I am especially interested in how Disney used to make their 2D films and how the process evolved. I also wonder why they made the switch over to mainly 3D as I am not a big fan of it. Some of my hobbies other than animation are crocheting, painting, and playing video games. I am a twin and my sister also enjoys animation. She is an inspiration to me as well and we watch a lot of animations and TV shows together.

One of my favorite recent shows is Inside Job by Shion Takeuchi. It was created only last year. I enjoy the simple characters and their designs and the concept of the show. Most of the time I am not the biggest fan of very simple styles but I enjoy the animation and concept of the show. Unfortunately, it was recently canceled by Netflix which is super upsetting for me. I know Shion Takeuchi has worked for a lot of shows with similar weird concepts like Gravity Falls as a producer and writer which is why I think I enjoy it so much.

Carol Mui — W1

Hi all, my name is Carol. I am a Digital Marketing major and this will be my final semester at BMCC. I plan on transferring to City College’s Advertising and Public Relations Major. In my downtime, I am the most ardent fan of napping. When I’m not sleeping, you can find me shopping for stationery, practicing calligraphy, playing with fountain pens, dabbling around with collage, or writing pen pal letters.

I picked this class because it seemed to be the most interesting option to fulfill the World Cultures and Global Issues requirement, in addition to my general preference for animated films. I’ve only started to explore the animation from other countries, so I figured that this class would be a good introduction into the animation of other cultures.

One of my favorite films is “Ernest et Célestine (2012),” which was based on the books written by Gabrielle Vincent, a Belgian writer and children’s book illustrator. I enjoy the minimalist artwork of the film; the overall design made me want to pick up watercolors again. It reminded me that I don’t have to make art complicated in order for it to have worth. The characters gently remind me that relationships aren’t necessarily built on events, but the moments in which people are willing to be vulnerable.

Stéphane Aubier, Vincent Patar, and Benjamin Renner directed the movie. Renner may have had the most influence on the film’s artistic direction, based on his body of work. It was animated with Flash and bespoke software to help with the watercolor effect.

Brittany Ramos WK 1

Hi everyone, my name is Brittany, and I am entering my 3rd semester at BMCC. I am a Business Administration major, and I plan on attending Baruch to complete my undergrad in Sustainable Business. My goal is to work with entrepreneurs to build green business models.

I am an active person and am passionate about travel and health. I am an avid runner and will be running the NYC United Half, RBC Brooklyn Half, and the NY Marathon this year! Because I am such an active person, I LOVE all types of food, especially anything I can cook quickly.

I am taking this course because I would love to tap into my creative side while learning math and other sciences this semester. I hope learning about something as fun and exciting as animation can be my happy place!

My favorite cartoon is The Simpsons, created by Matt Groening in the 80s. The Simpsons started as a short sketch on the Tracy Ullman Show before becoming its own cartoon. Yes, I am dating myself here. While I don’t remember when The Simpsons originally aired, I do remember not being allowed to watch The Simpsons because my mother didn’t believe it was a show suitable for children. Over the years, The Simpsons have evolved in animation techniques and show content, showing no signs of slowing down!
