I am Karlene Thompson, and I will be your leader this semester as you work at establishing and honing your Public Speaking skills toward proficiency and beyond, in all components of the Speaking Competencies. I have spent over 40 years in higher education as an academic administrative educator. I have taught Speech Communication, Research Methodology, Freshman Composition, and Core Seminar – an interdisciplinary writing intensive course at various Universities and Colleges, including Long Island University and St. Joseph’s College. I also have an extensive background in Student Affairs as Assistant Dean of Students and as the Director of Student Life and Leadership Development. My involvement in education also includes experience teaching and working in the K-12 sector, and participating on various school committee as a parent. My most challenging position in life, though, is being the mother of four young adults, all of whom my husband and I are very proud.
