VAT Majors Fall 2020 Registration Update

This information is for Video Arts and Technology (VAT) majors for Fall 2020.

Latest Updates

  • MEA 201 Professional Development and Career Planning in Media Arts and Technology: There is a new section open: MEA 201 501, Tuesday 11a-12:40p, Prof Robert Thill
  • VAT 301 Introduction to Video Graphics: There is a section open: VAT 301 1700, Thursday 5:30p-9:10p
    • This counts as a Program Elective.
  • MEA 300 Special Topics Courses: These courses are open. See below for more info.
    • They can be counted as a Production Course since we are not offering VAT 161 or VAT 261.
    • Please contact us both to request enrollment and to have it count as a Production Course.
  • VAT 165 Sound for Performance/Digital Media I: All sections are full. We don’t know if we will be able to open another section.

Special Topics Courses

This semester we are offering the following special topics courses related to the VAT major:

  • TV Writing: This course leads students through the process of writing a script for television. It course requires that you have passed MES 153 Script Writing.
    • MEA 300 1100 with Prof Jim Sayegh
    • MEA 300 1800 with Prof Melanie Oram
  • Experimental Film: this course will explore non-scripted, experimental methods of filmmaking including both shooting and editing techniques.
    • MEA 300 1400 with Prof Phil Weisman
NOTE: registration in all MEA 300 courses is by department permission only. Please contact us to request enrollment in one of the courses.

TV Studio Courses

Because of safety concerns related to COVID-19 we will not be able to offer classes in the TV studios this fall. We can not properly offer an online experience for these classes. If you were registered for either class: VAT 161 or VAT 261, then you should talk to you advisor about an alternate. Options include other VAT Production courses, Special Topics courses (above).

Online in Fall 2020

All classes taught in Fall 2020 will be taught online. For some classes special equipment will be used. In order to have the best experience possible, please stay in touch with the MEA Department and your professor about your technology needs.
