The Joneses Family

  1. Would you categorize the way the Jones family lives as personal selling? Why or why not?

I would categorize the way the Jones family lives as personal selling because they were using the product and demonstrating how or when to use the product. For example, they use their own plates for dinner or parties to serve the guests which makes the guests/potential customers see the quality of the plates.

  1. What similarities do you see between the sales tactics the Jones family employs and the marketing tactics of some of your favorite brands? Give an example.

The similarities I see between the sales tactics the Jones family employs and the brand that I liked use the same way of marketing tactics. Sellers influence a buyer to buy the product by sending their products to influencers/celebrities for free just to promote and sell their brand which can be somehow manipulative. For example, CeraVe is a skincare brand that is constantly promoted by celebrities and influencers resulting in an increase in the sale of their products.

  1. Based on what you read in the course materials and what you observed in this movie, do you think the way products are marketed in this movie is ethical?

The way products are marketed in the movie “The Joneses” is unethical because they are selling just for the sake of it, there is no evidence that the product is good, and it’s based on mind games where sellers use manipulation to convince that their product is worth buying. For example, the daughter Jenn was promoting diet pills to girls in high school which can compare to the real world where the same kind of diet pills or beautifying products are promoted/sold to customers by claiming good results without any evidence.

  1. How would you feel if you were friends with someone in the Jones family before you found out about their secret? What about afterward?

If I were friends with someone in the Jones family before I found out about their secret, I would wonder what they do for a living to afford this kind of lifestyle. Afterward, I wouldn’t be able to trust them, I wouldn’t consider them a friend because I would feel betrayed. It’s like deceiving someone just to sell the product and they are friends with me just to benefit from the relationship.

Week F Assignment

I wasn’t familiar with the shark tank before but after watching the episode I was hooked. I like the idea of presenting innovation or creation for the business and the show is helping a lot of small businesses and though who need funding for businesses. Throughout the episode of the Shark tank video, nothing impressed me but Pretty Rugged. Pretty Rugged can be successful with appropriate marketing. Tracy created the world’s first blanket with luxe faux on one side and waterproof, which she got inspired by his grandfather. A waterproof blanket is a must-have item during the winter season when you want to stay cozy whether you’re putting together or searching for something to keep you warm at the beach. The blanket is also machine washable which is the go product for most consumers. The blanket can be used for outdoor sporting events or any other outdoor activity that requires a need to chill off. The product it’s filled with synthetic alternatives to warm and cuddly down-installed variants. Due to their longevity, simplicity of use, and mobility, they are infinitely adaptable. What makes it easier is the softest faux fur, machine washable, waterproof, and take it in on the go.

I like the way she presented her product to the sharks. She began by showing her inspirational story about how she came up with the idea. Then she moved on to explain the features of the product. Then she talked about the cost of manufacturing and the net amount of the product. The Pretty Rugged cost to make was $30 to $40 and the retail price was $290.

The consumer should not only want this product but feel that they need it to be because, in my opinion, Pretty Rugged blanket can be helpful to all generations from young adults to adults when you go for any outdoor activities and it’s easy to carry on for any weather when you want to travel as I mentioned before.

The product looks luxurious, but I think it’s better to lower the price by a little at least $150 to $200 making it more affordable to more consumers since it doesn’t cost her a lot to manufacture. Although I saw $150 blankets on their website it looks much smaller than the product she was presenting.

Consumer Decision Making

If I moved to Salt Lake City, I would first decide what kind of I food I want. If I want Italian food, I will first google it and search for a restaurant that is near to me. I will look for the service option if they have a pickup, dining, or delivery. Furthermore, I will check the menu to see what kind of specialties they have. I will check to see if the restaurant has a reservation or walk-in.  Lastly, I will check for the review and ratings of each restaurant to see if they have a nice service and the price. While I am searching for the restaurant and the reviews, I prefer something that is a good mixture of both fancy and casual although the taste of the food is more important attribute for me. I will choose pickup rather than delivery because they tend to charge more for delivery service. One of the restaurants that I found interesting was Salt and Olive which has good reviews and 4.5 ratings out of 146 reviews. The interesting part was their pictures that were posted online which I found through search engines. When I went to their reviews, it was good and my top priority is if they have a timely and friendly service because sometimes when you order your food, it will take a long time to get the food. Most of the people reviewed their good food.

Caffe Molise is my first choice because it is budget-friendly and has good reviews. I chose it since it has 4.5 ratings out of 2.6k reviews. The Caffe Molise has a live jazz trio for those who enjoy music during their meal and is kid-friendly for those who have kids. They have handicapped access plus an elevator, and they have a garden patio for those who want to eat outdoors. Also, they have a parking lot.

I found out that most consumers look for the same thing as myself such as good food, customer service, the menu, and the service option. Customer service is equally important as good food and can be the top priority for the most consumer.

WEEK B ASSIGNMENT

YANGI – ETHICS

Shein is the company that I interact with lately. I love wearing trendy clothes that have a reasonable price. Shein is an international fast-fashion e-commerce platform that offers fashionable clothes, that are easily accessible to people who are on a budget. I go for fast- fashion when I am looking for affordable clothes. Shein was founded in 2008 and is one of the fastest-growing company

Shein claims that they are participating in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) which supports human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. Shein provides a framework that is good for our environmental sustainability and social influence. Shein supports small to medium businesses and has been investing in technology. They support new and upcoming designers and provide a platform to promote their designs.

I recommend that Shein do better at producing their product. I want Shein to provide better labor rights so they can provide a safe environment for the employees and try to do better for the people who work for them. I have seen Shein copy some designs from other companies or designers, and I hope they try to be original as they can be or at least provide some credits. I also want to add about their use of hazardous chemicals when they produce their clothes. They can do better at researching and manufacturing their products and focus on the safety of customers.
