The Joneses

Would you categorize the way the jones family lives as personal selling? Why or why not?

I categorize the way the jones family lives as personal selling because as a family they use themselves to sell their product. In the movie, the Jones family cultivated relationships so that when it was the right time to sell and promote their products they could capitalize on those relationships and make sales.

What similarities do you see between the sales tactics the Jones family employs and the marketing tactics of some of your favorite brands? Give an example.

Some of my favorite brands are Nike, Polo, and Puma, and when brands as big as that release a new product or a product that’s highly anticipated it could almost feel like you’re being pressured into making a purchase without thinking it through all the way, all because you want to be one of the first people with a high-quality product. The Jones family markets in a similar way because they use themselves to make their products become high quality in the eyes of the customer.

Based on what you read in the course materials and what you observed in this movie, do you think the way products are marketed in this movie is ethical?

Based on the course materials and what I saw in the film the jones family marketed products in an unethical way because it was built on a foundation of lies.  The way they lived wasn’t perfect and they are not an actual family. The bonds that they created were also built on a foundation of lies.

How would you feel if you were friends with someone in the Jones family before you found out about their secret? What about afterward?

If I was friends with someone in the jones family before I found out their secret I would feel good knowing that I made a new friend but after finding out their secret I would feel like our relationship was fake and only exist so that a product can be promoted

Spotify is now offering a lower-priced subscription package for college students!

Spotify’s chief executive officer Daniel Ek has recently been working to offer cheaper options for those most in need, and college students will now be benefiting from this. As one of the most extensive music streaming services, we offer a free model that includes advertisements and pauses in the music. We provide a ten-dollar subscription package that will absolve you from advertisements. Our new subscription package for students will feature all the same options as the ten-dollar package but will include a simultaneous subscription to Hulu and SHOWTIME at the low price of five dollars!

Daniel EK states that he was inspired by the hard work students go through every semester and knowing how positively music can affect a person he wanted to help make Spotify more accessible and affordable to a large demographic like college/university students.

Spotify’s new student subscription package will be eligible in every state and even for those studying abroad. We worked with Hulu and SHOWTIME to have their platforms included in the student subscription because for those of us who have been students we know how hard it is to keep track of paying different platforms once a month while you’re in school paying for classes and books.

At Spotify, we look to unlock the potential of human creativity by allowing millions of artists to express themselves through their music and we broadcast that to the billions of consumers who use our app.  We are a community at Spotify and we hope to keep growing this community through more innovative actions.

Product Concepts

Shark tank is a reality show where up-and-coming entrepreneurs present their products to 6 investors. Episode 5 of season 14 includes four entrepreneurs who all have great businesses but the business that resonated with me the most is

https://www.bridalbabes.co/

Bridal babes resonated with me because they lean towards diversity and are heavily involved with their customer base. It is clear they work hard, they also have made two million dollars in lifetime sales which is exceptional. Charles and Ashley Young’s presented their bridal business as the first bridal fashion line to celebrate women of all shapes, shades, and sizes. The fabric is made to stretch so that it is a good fit for all women and according to Ashley young, the fabric is what transformed their business and changed their business model. The material looks like satin and can stretch, drawing in customers at a fast pace.  This product allows bridesmaids to have more options regarding what they wear and is convenient because bridesmaids often struggle to find dresses.

There are many reasons for the target audience to want a dress from bridal babes but what makes a customer need a dress from bridal babes is the company’s diversity when it comes to the size of the dresses and the style of the dresses. During the episode, Charles Young says “no one has ever seen bridesmaids in such stunning looks before”. The looks are unique and anyone can get a dress because they are affordable. The appeal for bridal babes is high because of how comfortable Charles and Ashley are with social media. Through social media, they are able to connect to their customer base like other businesses can’t and the virtual consultations they do make the customer’s experience with them personable.

Consumer Design Making – Italian Restaurant

Syeed Salvant

If I were to relocate to Salt Lake City and was interested in finding a good Italian restaurant to get food, the first thing I would do is look through the online reviews and how many stars the restaurant has. My personal preference would be to dine at a restaurant that is four and a half stars or higher with an A health inspection grade.  If a restaurant can meet those criteria then I would be open to eating there.  I prefer casual restaurants but I do not mind a fancy restaurant from time to time and I also have no preference when it comes to the price of the food.  Being in a new environment I would go to the restaurant in person but as time goes by I would want the option of ordering takeout or delivery.  Ordering food for delivery can sometimes be exasperating with how much food gets stolen and the possibility of items being left out of the order.  The majority of the restaurants that I researched offer delivery so the option of delivery shouldn’t be a problem as long as it is done in an orderly fashion.

The restaurant that I ended up choosing is named Caffé Molise.  Caffé Molise is located in downtown Salt Lake City, the scenery is nice and the area is active, the restaurant is casual and also can hold pre-theatre, opera, symphonies, and concerts, or it can be a sporting event dining location. There is outside dining on their garden patio and the location of the restaurant is fitting for someone who has just moved to Salt Lake City.  The prices are also great, the highest-priced item on the menu is the bistecca which is just under forty dollars.

Caffé Molise is great but there are some other restaurants that fit my criteria like The Old Spaghetti Factory and Stone Ground Italian Kitchen, in the end, I selected  Caffé Molise because of the authenticity and the lively surroundings and even though I dont mind high prices and the reviews about how customers are treated was what solidified my choice.  Caffé Molise is affordable and the food is high quality. While researching these Italian restaurants in Salt lake City I learned how much a review can affect decision-making when it comes to choosing a place to eat. One bad review can be the reason I dont choose a restaurant.  Everyone has different requirements when it comes to where they want to eat, I’m always open to new experiences and will give most respectable establishments a chance while others might draw the line at a bad review or not care about reviews at all.

 Syeed Salvant- Ethics

Nike is a company that I interact with frequently.  The shoes I wear for the most part are manufactured by Nike, many of my clothes are also Nike. It is known that Nike in the past has been accused of using sweatshops and they’ve also been accused of using products that are detrimental to the environment which is way making a case for Nike as being a company that is ethical can be interesting but as time has gone by Nike has worked on improving the pay and working conditions of their employees and they are also heavily involved in Philanthropy, community service, and energy conservation.

According to Nike they want to ”protect the future of sport and our collective playground”. On their website they give information and statistics that will help inform you on things like the percentage of renewable energy in facilities that are operated by Nike.  Nike has also changed their purpose as a company and wants to prioritize diversity and building community. On the official Nike website it States “Our priorities include promoting diversity, equity and inclusion for all; advancing a transparent and responsible supply chain; innovating sustainable materials and methods of make that focus on our environmental impact; building community by investing in organizations focused on economic empowerment, and education and equality”. According to them this is their focus and it is a step in a great direction but Nike like all companies isn’t in the clear because of the positive changes they’ve made through the years. For Nike to make a true change they to permanently commit to the Worker Rights Consortium so that any accusations of sweatshops and unfair labor can be null and void and they should also incorporate their invention Flyleather® in more of their clothing because it is more ethical and saves energy
