The Joneses

Week H Assignment

Katellyn Ahuatl

Would you categorize the way the Jones family lives as personal selling? Why or why not?

In the movie  “The Joneses” we are introduced to a family that is not real but more so are working together to gain clientele for their products they are selling. As the movie progresses I do categorize that the Jones family live a personal setting because wherever they and whoever they are around they are “showing off their lifestyles’ ‘ which makes the people want to be like them and they end up buying those specific products which boost their sales in the end. To name some examples I pickled up were the glasses, the tv, the watches the toilet

  • What similarities do you see between the sales tactics the Jones family employs and the marketing tactics of some of your favorite brands? Give an example.

Some similarities I see between the sale tactics the Jones family employs and the marketing tactics of some of my favorite brands is making it seem like if they have the specific item they are advertising their lives will be like theirs. This tactic is smart because a lot of people fall for the trap but sometimes everything we see is not the reality because in the movie we see that the Jones family played their roles right because everyone fell for their products. I can connect this with the tactic called influencer marketing because they are using their title of being “happy and successful” out to the public. This draws them to want to be like them and buy the products they have which in this case are the products they are trying to sell. Once the Jones family has business they can use Relationship marketing which is a strategy that involves creating more meaningful relationships with the  customers, so they continue to come back. I see this tactic used in alot of companies for example having a loyalty accounts connected with them, personalized couples for the people subscribed to the company.

  • Based on what you read in the course materials and what you observed in this movie, do you think the way products are marketed in this movie is ethical?

Based on the course material I’ve learned in the class and what I observed in the movie, I  think the way the products were marketed in the movie was not ethical. Reason being is because there was no actual bond that connected to them. They were solely focused on making sales and they didn’t care if they had to make up a fake lifestyle which created an unrealistic way the products were to be used if they were brought by the crowd. One way Steve worded it was when he called themselves they were  “a unit.”

  • How would you feel if you were friends with someone in the Jones family before you found out their secret? What about afterward?

If I were friends with someone in the Jones Family and found out their secret I would definitely feel betrayed. I would have mixed feelings of frustration but intrigued to as what was their main motive to do what they did. After finding out their secret, I would question whether our friendship was genuine or  strictly business. Intrigued because for some strange reason I find what they were doing was cool in a sense that they get to play a role but at the same time work and make money. I would question it but I also would want to know the reason and more about the company they work for.

Week F Assignment

I’m actually a huge fan of the show Shark Tank. It’s quite interesting to see the many creative ideas that inspiring entrepreneurs have to offer to the shark. While watching this particular episode the pitch that resonated with me was Tracys, her product was called pretty rugged. She was asking for 200k for 10% of her company.  Her product is a blanket that is waterproof and windproof on one side and full fur on the other.  Her starter prompt  already got me hooked from the start because her product can be used in various situations and not just one which already is more marketable and appealing to the customers. The way Tracy presented her product was smart because not only is she focused on one product but she has a brand with other pieces of clothing with the same concept. The way she used her grandfather as a selling target was ideal because she can win with a background story which helps sell the product even more. Tracy also came in already with good sales and margins along with her main problem was the finances . The gap that this product fills is for all genders, ages and it can be a good target to people who travel and want to save the extra luggage, people camping, people in where the weather is bipolar and want to grab something convenient.  Her product can come in handy in all types of weather changes. I think consumers would not only want this product but feel like they need it because it’s convenient, fast, luxurious and fashionable. The only downfall I can say is the price is not the most affordable. Her prices are around $220- $290 which I believe can be lowered down a little more. Tracy’s product has a bright future if she can get the right advertising to the right people along with a good mentor that can help her make smarter decisions financially.

Consumer Decision Making

If I moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in search of some Italian food I would do my usual procedure when it comes to finding the best spot out of every possibility out there. I would use the internet and take in count what the people on the internet are saying and posting. I’m the type of person that strictly goes to a restaurant that has at least 4 stars out of 5 not to be picky but i just want food that’s worth my money.  Which brings me to me my other factor which is affordability, some places charge ridiculous prices with small portions so for this I would dig more deep and head over to their menu/ prices. I believe a restaurant should have an updated menu every so often in terms of keeping it modern and up to standards, I believe this would draw more customers in instead of looking at a years old menu. I also favor authentic food over everything therefore  I would look out for it if the owners are from Italian descent. When it comes to casual over fancy I prefer casual. It doesn’t have to be the most fancy looking but I do believe scenery matters to me depending on the occasion of going out to eat. Some factors I would consider would be seeing how long the business has been open. This would allow me to know that people around the neighborhood are coming back and enjoy what the restaurant has to offer. This might sound like the most obvious answer but there’s more to it because I’m the type of person to analyze almost every little thing because I  want to make sure my money is going to the right company and people.

The restaurants that caught my eyes were  called Salt & Olive and Celeste Ristorante.

In regard to Salt & Olive this restaurant is known for its authenticity and it’s a plus for me since it’s family owned, which I’m all for because I love supporting family owned businesses. This restaurant has 4.5 stars out of 5 with over 200+ reviews and not to mention all the reviews are good with high quality pictures which make it more eye appealing to the customer. The scenery is calm with a touch of fancy to it which was well captured by the customers. The restaurant is known for excellent customer service by the staff in which they offer private rooms for reservation gatherings which is  always a plus for me so this drew my attention towards this restaurant. On the other hand Celeste Ristorante is also known for a true authentic experience as well as being family owned. This restaurant has a rating of 4.8 stars out of 5 with over 300+ which is a bit more than my other pick but i’ll take a a restaurant close to 5 stars. The downside of this one compared to the other hand is its more pricey for almost the same foods which sometimes I question as why restaurants do that which makes me draw to the other restaurant again. The scenery of this restaurant is more old school and almost looks like you’ll feel like you’ll  be in Italy. When it comes to picking one and drawing out my factors mentioned,  I’ll stick to Salt and Olive, I feel like it suits my style of comfort and affordability with good services. According to the consumer decision making process this restaurant felt like the right place that had what I was looking for. As humans we are more targeted to where the people are going to and leaving pictures and reviews for the next customers. I believe this helps the restaurants stay in business because it is out in the public for everyone to read about which is the good thing of technology, it allows us to research in just a click of a button.

A company I would like to focus on for this assignment would be Apple Inc. Reason being is because I feel like I’m such a tech nerd. I’m fascinated on how technology can rapidly change and well personally this is perfect for me to see what goes behind such a big company like Apple. I actually find myself owning a lot of Apple’s products which makes me interact and stay up to date with their technology and products on a daily basis. Just like any other company there’s always much more than what Apple markets on the big screens.
Let’s dig a bit more deep, Apple Inc. is an American multinational technology company specializing in consumer electronics, software and online services. Apple is a customer driven company so essentially it’s all the customers and the primary goal is to keep them coming back to them instead of them going to their rival companies. Apple products are made by millions of people in over 50 countries. The company takes pride when it comes to sourcing and recycling, they apply the highest standards to ensure that every person in our supply chain is valued, respected, and safe. Apple has zero tolerance for forced labor or human rights violations of any kind
As stated in on the Apple website, their business practices are as following:
Honesty—Demonstrate honesty and high ethical standards in all business dealings.
Respect—Treat customers, partners, suppliers, employees, and others with respect and courtesy.
Confidentiality—Protect Apple’s confidential information and the information of our customers, partners, suppliers, and
employees.
Compliance—Ensure that business decisions comply with applicable laws and regulations.
Apple as a company takes innovation on how their products impact their environment which is why Apple suppliers are committed to using renewable energy for their production. The operations are all carbon neutral.Their goal is to reach carbon neutrality worldwide. To do this, we’re committed to transitioning our entire supply chain to renewable energy.
A large company like Apple can’t function without employees and we all know the importance of the role they play to keep the company going Apple has an excessive health and safety risks ve led to a widespread sense of unsafe working conditions among workers
