Week H Assignment

I would categorize the way the Jones family lived as personal selling but not in a direct way as they sort of prolong the process,  instead of just letting people know directly that they are trying to sell them a product, they would show off products to others by using them themselves so that people would see how good said product Is and would want it for themselves too.

A similarity between the sales tactics the Jones family employs and the marketing tactics of other brands is commonly known as influencer marketing. This happens a lot throughout the movie as the Jones family makes sales by influencing different customers on different products. For example, when Mike Jones was showing off his skateboard, I am sure that made his friends want to get one as well, or when Kate was showing her living room to her neighbor instantly her neighbor fell in love with her dining set and wanted one like it. They all market products to people within their age group or things that a targeted group would be interested in, like when Steve took the golf clubs to the court where everyone would be fascinated with it even though he was already a good player he made It look as if it was the clubs that made him better in the game. Examples of how other stores use this tactic would be when you’re going to look to buy a bed or a sofa set, stores like Ashley furniture and Ally furniture would allow you to sit on the sofas or lay on the bed so that you would get a feel of the product to get that personal experience they also would have showrooms whereby they have other pieces in the picture for you to see and get your interest with it, for example, they would put a coffee table, or a center table to show up the sofa or when selling the beds they would have dressers, closets, and nightstands to also influence the customers buying decision.

I think it is ethical however I am sure that some may disagree, I think it was ethical in ways that even though the Jones lied and made people believe they had it all they had never forced anyone to buy a product or use a product they simply introduced different products to people and let them decide on their own as to if they wanted that product or if they needed it. However, in the end, Mr. Jones tough they were somewhat being unethical as to what had happened to their neighbor Larry but I don’t think that was Mr. Jones’s fault it was Larry who got jealous of Mr. Jones and wanted to live a lavish lifestyle even though he could not afford it, causing him to be in the situation he was in which led him to do what he did.

If I were friends with someone in the Jones family before finding out their secret I would be thrilled, excited, and a tad bit jealous, thrilled because my friends were cool and rich, excited because I was being introduced to new products, gadgets, and games and a bit jealous because I’m sure I would if wanted to live their life as it seemed to be so cool. After I found out about their secret, I would be disappointed and even pity them. Disappointed because I thought they were real friends and not fake ones and pity them as their life was just all made up nothing was real as they were just living a lie.

NYC 2023 BALL DROP

It’s that time of the year to come out and celebrate the coming of a new year with friends and family.

New York City is one of the best places to be to break in the new year’s as it is known for its iconic ball drop event at the famous Times Square. Entry points will be set up at Sixth Avenue and Eighth Avenue between 38th and 56th Streets. It is an event that can be celebrated with friends and family of all ages. This memorable event is one that is free, but it comes down to a first come first serve basis as space is limited, so be there early to save yourself a space to celebrate at this in-demand event.

Everyone that attended this event in the past years described the moment of the ball drop to be magical and memorable and felt as if the confetti falling are shooting stars in which they can make a wish that the new year is prosperous for not only them but for their loved ones. The event is one that is done every year.

About us:

  • Located on the roof of One Times Square building, a ball that is a prominent part of a New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square is used for commonly referred to as the ball drop event, it is where the ball descends a specially designed flagpole, beginning at 11:59:00 p.m. ET, and resting at midnight to signal the start of the new year.
  • In 1903, The New York Times newspaper was about to open its new headquarters, the city’s second tallest building, in what was then known as Longacre Square. The paper’s owner, Adolph Ochs, decided to commemorate their opening with mid-night fireworks show on the roof of the building on December 31, 1903, and this is when the ball drop was created.

The pitch that resonates most with me is the two-sided coats and blankets from rugged. The products have a warm fur-like material on one side and the other side is made with a material that is waterproof and windproof which is awesome. As someone living in New York, I totally loved this concept as it can work for both summer times when the rain is falling and you are out, or if you’re going on a picnic and the grass is wet. It’s great for the wintertime as it will keep you warm and if it snows it wouldn’t get wet or messy on the waterproof side even if it does all you need to do is simply wipe it off and you’re good to go.

I think the product will prevent the rain and the snow from being an excuse to have an enjoyable moment or having to cancel plans previously made, as we know the weather can sometimes be unpredictable.

Consumers would want this product because not only does it keeps you warm it is so comfortable and it can be used for many things the quality of the blankets is so soft that you will feel as if you are handling a luxurious product and for the cost, but you will also want to have It.

Brand positioning is the unique value that a brand presents to its customer. It is a marketing strategy brands create to establish their brand identity while conveying their value proposition, which is the reason why a customer would prefer their brand over others so by promoting this product people will be more aware of the brand, and hence more people would want to buy the product.

Having a celebrity or an influencer on the packaging I think will make people want to buy the product. Society is all about trends these days and if a famous person or someone with a high social media following uses or promotes something everyone suddenly wants that product or even needs it just to fit In its crazy I know but that’s just how it is.

Keeping the product at an affordable price is also one way of making the product sell more in this case the blankets were set at an affordable price considering the quality of the product, so I feel the price, in this case, was ok. Also comparing the product to other high-end ones that are for hundreds of dollars this one is almost like it but does more since it’s 2 sided and it’s being sold for only a fraction of the high-end blankets that are made with real furs such as mink products.

Overall, I think this product was indeed a good one I love the idea of a blanket that can be used in more than one situation for more than one purpose. The prices are overall affordable with a great profit margin. The packaging can have some improvements but the product itself is designed well and looks great. I think this product will indeed be profitable in the future for this entrepreneur.

Week D Assignment

Due to modern-day technology, it is rather easy to find information about anything once you have internet access. So, I started with google to see what Italian restaurants were out there in Salt Lake City. I saw a website listing the 10 best Italian restaurants available, so I went on in viewing my options. After viewing them I went onto each website to see the location and see the pictures that previous customers would have posted and the ratings of the restaurants.

Personally, I am not a big Italian dish person however I do love pizza and pasta which are 2 dishes famously known to be Italian dishes. Due to this, I had to decide between Settebello for they serve one of the best pizzas in Salt Lake City, and Osteria Amore for they serve one of the best plates of pasta in Salt Lake City according to google of course.

After discovering the above, first, I started looking into Settebello Restaurant on google they had a 4.5-star rating which Is very good. Their online menu showed that their pricing is somewhat affordable. Everyone says the pizza is delicious and the environment is clean and nice. The restaurant also got a lot of hype for being authentic and having wood-burning stoves to make the pizzas the old-fashioned way. The restaurant also offered indoor dine-in and take-out, but they offered no delivery.

I then checked out the Osteria Amore Restaurant on google they had a 4.6-star rating which is also good. Their prices were more expensive than the Settebello Restaurant, but it was still somewhat affordable. The meal that I was interested in on the menu was listed as a favorite so it has to be good. They also had a few nice desserts on their menu which people seemed to enjoy on their visit. The restaurant also offers in-door and out-door dine-in services.

In the end, after looking into both restaurants I would choose to eat at the Osteria Amore Restaurant since they had a higher star rating, and their food looks delicious based on the online images. They have deserts as well as a wine list. They offer guests an outdoor dining experience. They have a lot of good online reviews and honestly, I would choose to eat pasta over pizza since it is more filling, and who would say no to desserts?

In conclusion, I would say that the consumer decision-making process has a lot to do with what the consumer is looking for, what interest’s the consumer, and what gets the consumer’s attention. At the same time, the consumer is also concerned about what other consumers would have said or reviewed the restaurants as. Marketing in this case was based on the reviews of others since the consumer was in a different environment and was unable to see marketing from the restaurant itself. I also think that overall, everyone’s preferences vary but we all do look for the best option to go with.

Week C Discussion

Toys “R” Us was founded in 1948 by Charles Lazarus, the company made its name debut in 1957. They once Operated over 1,500 stores in 35 countries and jurisdictions around the world under the Toys “R” Us banners. The store was extremely popular for its wide variety of toys for children that was until it went bankrupt.
Competitive factors
In my opinion, the fact that Toys “R” Us was not legally the only store that was prohibited to sell toys but was the only one that was so invested in this area of goods they thought they were invincible. However, the competition with other stores led the company to bankruptcy. If the company had tried to get certain restrictions on other toy stores such as getting Toys “R: Us to be the only company that can sell certain toys or certain toys can only be found there maybe, they would still be in business. By doing that they would of knock out the competition.
Social factor
One of the biggest downfalls of Toys “R” Us was that they did not grow with technology enough. As time went by Toys “R” Us started to sell online yes, but they did not pay attention that their targeted market “children” were gradually not interested in physical toys, they were more interested in online games and videos. I believe if the company had invested in taking its product into the online world or even recognize that the market was dying and pulled the plug earlier it wouldn’t have been in bankruptcy.
Demographic factor
The biggest demographic factor for the Toys “R” Us company was kids. As children’s interest in physical toys decline the profits of the company did as well. The closing of the Toys “R” Us store wasn’t just the end of the company, I felt as if it was the end of an era as well. Since the business went out so did toys and outdoor activities, kids these days prefer to be cooped up in their room on any electronic device they can get their tiny hands on.
Economic factor
Even though the company tried to get back on its feet, it kept falling due to its competitors. The Toy “R” Us stores were beyond memorable and unique, but people forgot about that, as businesses went online, people stopped going into stores and started with online shopping. Some people even started importing their goods at cheaper costs. This caused the company’s income to reduce and hence contributed to leading them into bankruptcy.
Political and Legal factors
Toys “R” Us tried to expand and joined with Amazon to sell its toys online hoping to make more profits and widen its customers. But this attempt backfired, it ended up not being financially worth it in the end. Toys “R” Us paid Amazon and expected exclusivity, but Amazon started selling third-party items at probably lower prices. Toys “R” Us was already financially strained and could not afford Amazon but amazon didn’t want to let them out, so they took Amazon to court for failure to keep up their end of the deal. While they did win the lawsuit, the time lost battling in court could have been spent setting up their own online retail website INSTEAD.

Week B Assignment

The fast-food company that I enjoy and will be discussing is Chick-fil-a. This company is known for having one of the best customer service ratings because their employees go above and beyond in making sure their customers are satisfied. The company in return offers its employees many benefits such as giving out scholarships for studying, helping them to one day become franchise owners, and having good leaders for them to follow.

Chick-fil-a helps their communities in many ways. They often donate to many good causes, and they have donated 5 million dollars to 34 non-profit organizations through the Chick-fil-a true inspiration award program and 75 thousand dollars to the journey to dream program which helps teens that are homeless or have experienced physical abuse, drug abuse, or even deportation. These donations have helped many people within different communities and even save some.

The company also tries to be energy conservative through its sustainable design, back in 2019 the company started a program whereby they reduce their construction waste when building their new franchises. Construction waste was piling up in landfills, unable to be reused, with projections showing the global volume of annual construction waste to reach 2.2 billion tons by 2025. With more than 100 new restaurants planned for the next year, Chick-fil-A wanted to be part of the solution. So, they followed a process called “Lean Construction” and by doing so they saw a 50% reduction in construction waste which was beneficial for our planet. This also helped in reducing carbon footprint.

Chick-fil-a cares for its customers so they always try to get the best quality goods to make its delicious meals. They stand by the saying “Food is essential to life, therefore make it good”. They get their goods from supporting local suppliers and local farms which also brings jobs to these communities. Even though they take a hands-on approach when it comes to verifying their food suppliers making sure the quality and safety standards are met.

Overall chick-fil-a is a well-diverse organization that follows the values that they are here to serve, they believe in working together, they are purpose-driven, and they pursue what’s next. They do not have a lot to work on in making their franchise a better one as they are already doing a good job. However, I feel that since the covid-19 pandemic Chick-fil-a has not been 100% in customer service and customer accommodations since they had to change accommodations during the pandemic and since then they have not switched back. They need to take customers into consideration and have more eating space so that customers can sit and enjoy their meals. They could also be more energy efficient by using solar panels for electricity instead of using the typical power grid.

Chick-fil-a should also now have a more vigorous workplace health and safety plan in all employees should follow in making sure the surroundings are always clean and customers are safe in a purified area. Other than that, I think Chick-fil-a is a successful organization that has employees with good ethics, it’s an environmentally friendly organization, and benefits the communities they serve in more than one way.
