  • Post due Thursday 10/15
  • Comment due Sunday 10/18

This week, please use the discussion board to respond to the different texts by answering the following questions:

  • What do Vera-Gray and Kelly  say about “public space” as “gendered space”– what do they mean? What can  you add to their discussion from your own observations and experiences of public space?
  • What do the authors mean by “safety work?” What examples do they offer? Do you have other examples to add?
  • How do you think the praxis models engage in “safety work,” if at all? What other “work” do these interventions do?
  • Do any of these models give you ideas for your own project- and especially about the use of websites, videos, journalistic essays?

Discussion Board Prompt #6

Post and Comment on Discussion Board #6
  • Post due Thursday 10/8
  • Comment due Sunday 10/11

For this week’s post, please analyze the two sample literature reviews you read. For each literature review, answer the following questions (same as above):

  • What is the thesis, research question, or problem that the literature review addresses? (What is the purpose of the literature review?)  Be specific- quote the article.
  • What do the authors do? What type of literature do they review? Do they review literature in a particular field or discipline?
  • What does the literature review find? You may want to look at how it is organized (e.g. headings) to analyze the different themes or areas of information that the review contains.
  • What are the gaps or next steps, according to the author?

Extra Credit opportunity 10/8 from 2-4pm

Hello!

Next week, the Center for Ethnic Studies at BMCC is hosting an event: Free Migrant Survivors! Discussion + Letter Writing Action — please come and/or share the link with anyone you think may be interested!

The first part of the event includes a roundtable discussion with members of Survived and Punished about how gendered violence intersects with policing, incarceration, and immigration enforcement + how defense campaigns have organized to free criminalized migrant survivors.

+ then, we will have a letter writing action to show solidarity with survivors who live within the intersection of gender violence and criminalization! Supplies needed: paper, something to write with, an envelope, and a stamp. I will provide you with a stamp if needed.

Anyone attending the event will receive extra credit!

Be in touch with questions,

Professor Munshi
