I found the process in which it takes to create visual effects and CGI very interesting. Growing up, children’s movies were predominantly cartoons and rarely CGI which I do miss. Theres a stigma surrounding cartoons being for children, even though Anime is widely accepted and proved to be popular world wide, many film companies have moved on to CGI. I love where technology is going with films especially children’s movies but I do feel we are losing the beauty in diverse forms of animation. Theres a trend now where even CGI is being replaced with live action remakes mixed with CGI such as the new Lion king and Toy Story films. I’m hoping for the return of cartoon films in big theaters but until then I’ll have to get my fix from an indie theater that offers animated classic marathons.
As for deepfakes, I knew they existed but didn’t know the name. Its only problematic when used in the wrong hands. Theres an issue with fake celebrity porn, commercials with computer generated celebrities that look completely real, and even white men robbing banks with hyper-realistic masks.
