Snapshots

What is a Snapshot? (adapted from Dr. Benjamin Powell)

Snapshots are due on Sundays by 5 pm

The dictionary says a snapshot is an informal photograph of a particular moment in time usually taken by a photographer. A snapshot can also be a brief summary of a moment or event.

For our class, we are going to start with the dictionary definition and expand on it.

Specifically, the snapshot assignments are brief, informal responses to the class content for the week. You are going to create a summary that combines images, text, color, or anything you want to include in your particular summary. The snapshot assignment WILL NOT BE a two-paragraph response paper. The snapshot assignment COULD BE a drawing you make of an argument you got into with your sibling last week about one of the topics in the weekly class content. What did the argument sound like? What did it look like? Does it remind you of some song lyrics that you want to include? Was there color or was it in black and white? Is there a gif or meme or TikTok that you want to include? Why? How can you help explain what happened in the argument to a reader of your snapshot without using words? OR The snapshot assignment COULD BE a response to a quote in the content, or a main point that stands out to you, or a way you see the different parts of the content connecting.

Think of each snapshot you create like a multimedia artwork or a doodle that explains your take on something you learned from the class content. Each week you will start from scratch and create a new different snapshot. I suspect each snapshot you create will look different than the one before. There is no right or wrong way to make a snapshot.

Snapshots and Responses are considered informal writing. They should be completed on time and follow the guidelines in the assignment description. You will not receive individual instructor feedback on all of this writing all the time. If the post meets the criteria in the guidelines, it receives full credit. You can always make these up at any time during the semester for partial credit.

There will be 13 Snapshots and 13 Responses throughout the semester. You will be graded on how many you do

11 of each = A

9 of each = B

7 of each = C

6 or fewer of each = D
