i feel like gender roles is a very prevalent issue that every one struggles with across the world and in many cultures. gender is such a complex subject that should not be reduced to who gets to work and make money and who gets to stay home and take care of the house. And also expecting people of a certain gender to act a certain way.

Although my only brother is eleven years old, he is able to clearly point out gender rolls but not in the best ways. “Feminism is for Everybody” and the reading on the Raising Zoomer site, reminded me of the multiple times in which I found myself challenging gender rolls and explaining them with frustration to my Hispanic family. I was taken back to when I was a child and was already learning how to clean up after and cater to my family, specifically my father. At my brother’s current age, I knew how to do many household chores and in comparison, he has not been asked to do much when it comes to this. I realized the act of cleaning should not have to be expected by a specific gender as cleanliness is something that everyone should take part in and I find myself explaining this to my brother who eventually takes time to understand this and decides to help without throwing a fit. This process also reminds me that gender roles can be deeply rooted in cultural traditions and it does cause some bitterness or resentment because it is up to present and future generations to undo this mentality.

Both articles mention gender and sex (sexism) which are two important topic because it’s a way in which we see each other as. Both have two different meanings, gender is refer to as female or male and sex is being referred in the way how our body works. In gender we have female and male, in my opinion I think both genders should be treated equally. Both genders should be treated and be able to learn the same things.
