Response 11:

An Abortion is a procedure to end a pregnancy. It uses medication or surgery to remove the embryo or fetus and placenta from the uterus. The procedure is done by a licensed health care professional. The decision to end a pregnancy is very personal. For many women, having access to an Abortion is important because it is a key component of women’s comprehensive health care. The ability to choose if, when, and how to give birth is linked to women’s economic success, educational attainment, and general health and well-being.

There were many testimonies of women who chose to have an abortion and those who refused to have one in The Abortion Divide. Through their experiences, I also learned why some women decided to keep their pregnancies and why others do not. Shahara was one of the few women in the video who chose to go through with an abortion. She did that because she felt she couldn’t afford to bring another child into the world, especially because she already has four children and is financially struggling to care for them. Shahara is grateful for the option to get an abortion because if she didn’t, her situation would be much worse and she would be at a loss for what to do.

While Shahara opted to have an abortion, many women, like Rosie, did not because she did not believe in abortion, especially growing up in a large family like hers. Despite her reluctance for having several children, she believes that terminating the pregnancy is wrong and that babies are a “blessing.” Brittany is another woman who opted to have her baby after previously considering an abortion. She ended up having her daughter when she just couldn’t go through terminating her pregnancy.

When looking through the snapshots, one that had stood out to me was posted by Keona Malcolm. The woman in Keona’s Snapshot is pregnant and in shock as she is dragged away by a priest or a powerful figure in the church.

Referring back to the film The Abortion Divide, there was a scene in which a woman desired to get an abortion but was advised that her baby would suffer if she did. This instilled enough worry and anxiety in the mother because she believed her baby would suffer pain and went on to give birth to her child.

Dr. George Isajiw (a member of the Catholic Medical Association) felt compelled to explain to women why they should carry their pregnancies to term, and that abortions are just wrong and sinful. Now, if women are behaving out of fear, especially because of the church, they will undoubtedly carry their pregnancy to term.

Personally, I believe that women should be allowed to do anything they choose with their pregnancy. Terminating the pregnancy or keeping the pregnancy should both be fine, and women should not feel obligated to continue or get rid of their pregnancy because of others. After all, it is her body, hence she should have the final say.

In the photo uploaded in my snapshot 10, it is said that it is not your body that is not your choice. I used to think abortion was shameful and unfair to the fetus, but when I learned that some were raped or because of some kind of last resort The reason for the need for abortion. I began to feel that abortion is a feeling of “God closed your door but opened a window to you” for some girls who were abused or even raped and became pregnant. They don’t have to give birth to the bad guys because they can’t have an abortion so that they can remember what they have experienced all the time.

In SnapShot 11 I like MeiQiChen Snapshot because it really shows that women have the right to choose whether to keep their child or not because it is their own body. And having a choice to choose is like having the freedom to decide while not being control by the choice you made. And they are protesting to gain the right to abortion because some women go through traumatic events like rape and the baby isn’t theirs and choosing to abort it is the only choice for them. But this way of killing the child doesn’t mean you murder a child. It isn’t so easy for women to defend themselves from rape because some of the time rape can happen between when you are drunk or actually with a guy that takes advantage of you when you are drunk. And what I thought of teen pregnancy it is that they are strong women/parents because it is hard these days they have to also go to school and take care of their child. That they didn’t decide to abort their child even though they are a single parent. Also, the thing is that you don’t have enough resources for the baby it would be harder for you to take care of them. Also, some of the time birth control doesn’t work and they’re just pregnant. Anything can happen the condoms might had also break. I watch one of the videos on Youtube called The History of Reproductive Justice it tells me about how Black Women had been through more then any other race of women. They also had been denied for a full range of service protection in the United States. Also low income 63 cent for every dollars a white men actually makes. Also Black Women die much easier during preganacy as white women because how they get their income and also educational. Which isn’t fair because of their color. And it makes us think that this world are suppose to stand around white people. I felt that preganacy could be hard for all women because it can also take the risk of dying if both mom and baby are in there for too long. I also can see that being mom is hard and tough seeing whether to keep their child or to get rid of them. I can’t really relate because I am not a parent yet every parent want their child safe and also happy. Some parents doesn’t want their child to suffer so they also put them up to adoption when they can’t raise them. I don’t really feel like this sound like a very bad idea neither. I had also watched 100 years of period this really tells me that how in different years period had changed over time they use to use cloth for their period. And sanitary belts never seen the belt before but doesn’t really look so comfortable if I was to wear that. That is why there is option that their showing.

In this snapshot my classmate Nancy Susano uploaded, this one depicts women of all colors making a stand towards a right to take control over their bodies as a way of having reproductive justice. This snapshot captures the idea that women should have the resources they need to make decisions in order to have reproductive justice. From the first video called “The Abortion Divide” by PBS Frontline, some of these mothers in general came to abortion clinics due to them not being financially stable enough to support another child. A few women has chose the process of abortion by taking oral medicine which starts the contractions and bleeding to terminate pregnancies. Some women find this process disturbing when they are being told that after the fetus is pulled out from the mother, the baby is literally torn to pieces by doctors and therefore ending its life. Other doctors try to persuade pregnant women not to abort their babies since they are against abortion. Another scene of the film that is shown are protesters who stand outside the clinic are not only against abortion but some of them are being religious people who praised the Lord. To be honest, I feel disappointed because some women are not allowed to have abortions that was sent up by doctors and an activist named Pat Stanton made an announced his opinion on how barbaric of terminating fetuses by severing them and place the samples in biohazardous containers by doctors. In the second video “Hobby Lobby: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”, the host John Oliver himself pokes fun at the concept of the fact of corporations with people because some of these members are religious who have the rights of freedom. One scene depicts people on television speaking out their minds about refusing to let their taxes go higher because of the debts that are caused by the government. I agree with what these workers are saying because it could lead them into bankruptcy and poverty. Another scene from this video is workers who work in the department store earn 90% more of their salary when working full time. I also agree with the fact that these workers deserve more to earn for their livelihood and make better choices for themselves. And in the third and final video “Reproductive Justice in the Age of Trump”, a Black state organizer named Eshe Shakura states the facts of abortion ban in the state of Georgia. From this video, we see a group of women of color who are protesting against banning abortion while finding the justice to make their own choices for reproduction in life. This video also respects the community aspect because people have who access to abortions clinics and what kind of contraceptives they are given in these communities. When it comes to both queer and transgendered people, these identities are left behind in the shadows because non-binary people who identify as feminine, experienced violence. I agree with what the speaker was saying because people can be  creating relationships with queer and trans people and listen to them more since the national media pays little to no attention to them unless cis White women are also affected.
