The video “Untold Stories of Black Women in the suffrage movement” focused on the rights of the black womens, we can say in general we can say for black people. It was a great way for me to learn a bit more about the suffrage movement. The right of women to vote in elections is known as women’s suffrage. At that time men were allowed to vote before women. During those protests, black women were allowed to march only in the back. These things never were easy for the woman. Even today women are still protesting and fighting for their rights. Because of those protests women were able to go to school and earn their education.

This sounds horrible how it took over more than 100 year for women to vote and even more time for black women. All those snapshots I see of them are women holding posters and marching. The reason for this occurrence is their rights. I even have this picture. I can not imagine how their life was back then. While watching the video “Untold Stories of Black Women in the suffrage movement” I learned about Ida B Wells, a journalist and one of the many leaders of the civil rights movement. Many people claim that she is the most famous black woman in history. Her courage and strength saved so many lives. In the video it discussed other famous activists also. I agree with her decision being part of the movement because she makes sure that movements bring black people their rights. Black people also want to do things as they want just like other races of people. There was still a continuous fight for voting rights even after the nineteenth amendment was ratified. While I was watching the video Susan B Anthony was mentioned and she is a woman who joined the women’s suffrage movement in the 1900’s. I think everyone deserves to be treated equally. I guess we can say this is important to the movement because it was where they met up and the first meeting being held.

From this assignment we were able to learn about how womens used to be treated many years back. Black people didn’t have the right to vote, especially womens. Black people are always being ignored by other people. To be honest, I think this still exists in some places in some areas. But this needs to be stopped as soon as possible. If we can start thinking the same about each other and if we treat everyone equally the world would be nicer than now. Also it will help our next generation as well. We don’t want our next generation to face any kind of problems that we are facing in this day and age or what we have faced before.

I loved the picture provided by Av Thomp. It perfectly shows how women’s rights matter. In our society men are powerful. Women are losing their rights because they don’t fight for it. They don’t say anything when they need to. Activism is essential because it has played a significant part in the abolition of slavery, the protection of workers from mistreatment, the protection of the environment, the promotion of equality of the sexes, the opposition to racism, and many other vital problems.

The documentary I watched it’s called Girls connected. This documentary shows five different girls from five different countries. Those five girls fight for their rights. One of them is from Peru. Her name is Josie. Her target was to prevent early pregnancy. She went around to the communities and she talked about how dangerous it is to be pregnant in girls’ early ages. She has seen many of her classmates drop out of school because of their pregnancy. She talked about the importance of using protection and if possible avoid sexual activities when someone is young.

There was another girl who is Michelle from Kenya. She says in her class there were only six girls. She understands if she becomes educated she can help other girls too.

Another girl from Bangladesh named Latifa was forced to get married at the age of 16. But she was successful in stopping her early marriage by taking help from her school teacher. After that she went to many villages to help young girls. Parents want their daughters to get married at an early age because they think daughters are a burden for them. But Latifa things girls shouldn’t be married off for food, money, or land. She went to everyone’s door to help them. This documentary showed just how much someone can impact their community, changing the minds of the adult’s way of mind but also mold the minds of young girls. We should also be open to helping one another and educating ourselves. This can be helpful for the world too. If we can take our step carefully we will be able to make a great world for our future generation.

I like Hillary’s Snapshot so much. Because it showed men’s feeling like women. I think everyone should be equal. Patriarchy is a deep-rooted system that stems from the fixed idea that men should lead and that women should just follow. I feel like men have to go through so many situations like women. Do they admit or don’t admit this is a fact? Idea of gender discrimination, gender roles don’t just hurt women it hurt men too. Society makes a stereotype that “men don’t cry”as Hillary’s snapshot showed. But this is very unfair. Men are human beings and they have feelings too.

I believe that it’s not just men anymore, it started this way but we should have changed our thinking. Allan Johnson explains how it is our stagnant and bystander behavior that allows these norms to remain in place and that society has a chance at this liberation if there exists a willingness. According to the text, “Patriarchy is a kind of society organized around certain kinds of social relationships and ideas that shape paths of least resistance.” For example, a patriarchal society male is the head of the family. They go out, they make money, they take care of the family while womens are at the  home, take care of the children and make food for the rest of the house members.

In my family my mother always told me that I should learn how to cook, how to wash dishes and most of the house work. And as I grow up I always work more than my brother did. I saw my brother always doing his own thing, he plays games, he goes outside with his friend and he does all the fun work. While I’m stuck at home. Patriarchy has been challenged for numerous generations, and it will take many more before it is entirely removed. Male and Female privilege both exist, there is female oppression because men like to control women and think that it’s okay to do that. In my opinion I think men and women should have equal rights because we both fit in the same gender. But day by day women know about their rights. But rural areas most of the women don’t have an idea. They still think that males should have greater control over them rather than being equal to men. Patriarchy is a system of society or government in which the father or eldest male is head of the family and descent is traced through the male line. “Within patriarchal relations, women are collectively excluded from full participation in political and economic life.” But these days people have less belief in patriarchy than before. I believe it will change soon.

My response to Hillary’s snapshot

I believe that Hillary is right. Hillary’s quote shows us when life is really hard. The article called “White Privilege: Unpacking The Invisible Knapsack” describes how white men in general refused to acknowledge white privilege. White people think different about them.  Author mention that other than white people had to go through so much just because their skin colour wasn’t white. Life was hard for them. Since everything was easy for white people their life wasn’t that much harsh as it was for other people. Other races people worked hard for to achieve anything. This is what Hillarys quote says that their life was easy. Their skin colour made is easy. It means other skin colour people life was the real life. Because they struggled for their thing. White people didn’t understand the meaning of life.
