ERA stands for equal rights amendment, which makes sure’s that there is protection for both genders I believe. This amendment was passed by the congress in 1972. According to the article Virginia Just Became the 38th State To Pass the Equal Rights Amendment. Here’s What To Know About The History of the Era” states, “SECTION 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. SECTION 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article. SECTION 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.” These sections that were on the amendment is basically saying equal rights shouldn’t be denied by any states base on sex, in the second section it’s saying that congress should take action and in the last section is processing the amendment. Therefore I think it was right what they did by putting it section by section. After looking at the snapshots from my classmates the one that caught my attention was the image by Junie Vallon, in the image you can see that it’s like a large group of women, holding up posters with female symbols and a sign that say’s equality I believe, base on what I see is many women protesting for equal rights. After watching both videos “Triangle Returns and The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire”, it was interesting because I don’t think i heard of the triangle shirt waist this is something new to me. From what I seen the triangle shirt waist was a factory in New York City that became a disaster in history. The factory got on fire and people who were in there only had two way’s to get out. In the video it had mention that 146 people died in there and that many of the people who couldn’t make they decided to jump of the window but they only did it so that there parents would have there body’s. In my opinion I think since they didn’t have no other option to escape from the fire was to jump of the window. I think that it was not the best thing to do but when you run out of options of what else to do is like you freak out and try to think fast. Another part of the video that caught my attention was when it was talking about the people having to jump of the window and he said how the worker’s who were on the ground thought that it was clothing falling of the window. Which to me is like how or what made them think it was clothing falling and not people. At the same time because of the smoke maybe those people who where on the ground probably couldn’t see as much who knows. Therefore it’s sound crazy to me because it’s humans falling of the window especially from a high floor.

The global Sweatshop economy was another issue that was mentioned in the same video as I mention before. In one of the factory’s workers were being payed at a wage of 28 cents an hour. This amount of pay is not okay because your not making enough especially depending on the amount of hours you have worked. The fact that these workers also end up demanding for 35 cents an hour and gap and other company’s did not do is like why can’t the change be made. In the video you can see that many policies were attacking these people and they honestly didn’t deserve that. Overall I think that it was a big major issue that should be fixed and those other companies should have raise up there wage pay to 35 cent’s an hour.

During the women suffrage movement there was unfair rights between both male and female. Basically both genders didn’t have equal rights which I feel like it’s not fair because they both should have the same rights. Another thing I wanted to point out is that they didn’t have the right to vote and it affect them in many ways. This tells us that it was affecting society because of the decisions that were being made when this was happen. One hundred Years toward Suffrage: An Overview listed a timeline form the years 1776 through 1923. One of year’s that stood out to me was in the year 1844 because to me it telling me that women were willing to get what they wanted. In ‘One hundred Years toward Suffrage: An Overview’ states that “Female textile workers in Massachusetts organize the Lowell Female Labor Reform Association (LFLRA) and demand a 10-hour workday. This was one of the first permanent labor associations for working women in the United States”. Further more this also tells me that during that time these women didn’t just sit back and expect a change to happen instead they spoke up for themselves and got what they wanted. While I was watching the video Susan B Anthony was mention and she is a women who joined women’s suffrage movement in the 1900’s I believe. The women suffrage movement really was about fighting to have the right to vote in the United States. In my opinion. I think everyone deserves to have their own opinion being heard by others and it shouldn’t be certain people, everyone deserves to have equal rights. This specific main issue tells me that the government was not making a change or at least trying at first, but in 1923 the national woman’s party propose to eliminate equal rights amendment. Then in 1965 all African american were allow to fully vote.

In my opinion I think women back then did the right to vote and it also helped them by their voices being heard. Going back to the timeline which was ‘One Hundred Years toward Suffrage: An overview’ states, “1837 The first National Female Anti-Slavery Society convention meets in New York City.” I guess we can say this is important to the movement because it was were they meet up and the first meeting being held. If I’m not mistaking I think that discrimination was another big part of the this specific issues because only certain were allow to vote. Also women weren’t being payed equally and being able to have their own control of there own body. Two other things that I remember from my history class in high school was having custody for their children and equality with their marriage. Having custody for your child is something all mother’s should have at all time’s and yes father too. If the mother shows that she’s capable of being responsible for their children then they should stay with them but obviously if they see that problems are occurring that’s when you know you should seek help.

After reading the article How To Think Like An Activist by Wendy Syfret and watching one of the films that was on the list, I think that we been live in a world where we go through all these different movements like equal pay movement, black live matter movement, or the feminist movement. All of these different types of movements has affected the world by the change in society. I was actually looking the snapshots and the one that caught my eye was from Meiqi Chen because to me it shows like it was has to do with the equal pay movement. Also in the image I saw many women were protesting holding up posters with one of them say “Equal Pay for Equal Jobs”. Another thing I wanted to point out was the background of the image it seems as if they are protesting in there community and to me I say they are protesting is because of the signs and seems like they are walking even though we don’t know if that was happening in the image those are just my own inferences. The video that I decided to watch was Knock Down The House. It was interesting to me because I got to know more about the candidate Alexandria Ocasio- Cortez than what I already knew. Seeing her going back to back with the jobs she was working which were waitress and working on running for congress has showed me how she is a really hard worker and that we are all capable of doing anything. In the article How To Think Like An Activist by Wendy Syfret it talked about the feminism movement and how that history is still alive today. There was many inequality’s between both genders which then lead to women suffering and facing different type’s of issues like sexual harassment, equal pay and domestic violence. For example in the article How To Think Like An Activist by Wendy Syfret on page three it states, “Second- wave feminism has become known for focus systemic sexism, gender pay inequality, reproductive freedom and access to education. Here again, protest and marches were a huge part of the culture. The take back the Night events and marches that were held across the 1970s to draw attention to violence against women were particularly influential”. This part of the article is telling us that many women that have been through or are still going through with all of these types of movements are trying to have equal rights. Therefore in the article it explained each part of the feminism movement that also tells us how the generation has changed through out the years.

Another part of the article that stood out to me was when it was talking about the whole COVID-19 which is something we are facing today. For example in the How To Think Like An Activist by Wendy Syfret on page three and four it states, ” People from all over the world are confronting issues such as climate change, racial injustice, xenophobia and violence against women, people of colour and non-binary individuals. All of these causes have been impacted by the social and financial fallout of COVID-19 and the resulting shutdowns”. Therefore we can see that even today we are facing more issues.

Male and Female privilege both exist, there is female oppression because men like control women and think that it’s okay to do that, when I hear about that I just think about why or how did this even exist in the first place. Patriarchy, the system, An it, Not a He, a Them, or an Us by Allan G. Johnson states on pg 1, ” Some of the time, men feel defensive because they identify with patriarchy and it’s values and do not want face the consequences these produce or the prospect of giving up male privilege.” Further more if men were to actually make a change and face the consequences there would have to be changes made but with the world we live in it’s seems that it can be kind of difficult because we would have to have a clear understanding of what is changing in the world. While I was reading the article Patriarchy, the system, An it, Not a He, a Them, or an Us by Allan G. Johnson on pg 7 it states, “To demonstrate that gender privilege and oppression exist, we do not have to show that men are villains, that women are good-hearted victims, that women do not need to participate in their own oppression, or that men never oppose it”. Every one sees each other differently but remember both privileges are still here today. Who knows if one day there will be change in the world about this. Discrimination in gender is another huge issue we deal with today as well it which is an unequal treatment to of a group base on the gender so like sexual harassment or unequal pay are two of them. The article “There is No Hierarchy of Oppression’s by Audre Lorde on pg 1 it sates, ” And I cannot afford to choose between the fronts upon which I must battle these forces of discrimination”. Here they are saying that we have to let them know that discrimination is not right and both genders should be treated equally. One thing that came back to my mind was when women in the past years were protesting for equal pay which was actually the women’s strike I believe. They protested because they wanted to work and be payed equally also to prove that we as women are capable of doing anything.

In my opinion I think men and women should have equal rights because we both fit in the same term gender. I question myself what would the world be like if none of these issues existed or the issues being left in the past. Today were still dealing with some of these issues and its sucks that we haven’t seen a change. I think we should make a change in this world. When I think about all of these issues its just like are we going to find a way to stop it or at least make a change in it. But you see now this is the world we live in and the fact that we had to live with these issues in our lives.

I like the picture you use keona, to me I think it’s telling me that all people in this world should be treated equally. Something that stood out to me when looking at the image was the papers having a check mark and an x marked on the paper. When I was reading both articles “White privilege: unpacking the invisible knapsack” by Peggy McIntosh and “Oppression” by Marilyn Frye, I notice that both articles mentioned oppression and privilege which are both important because they go more in detail about gender. According to the article “Oppression” by Marilyn Frye on page one it states, “We need to think clearly about oppression and there is much that migrates against this.” Therefore there saying that that they want to have a clear understanding about that specific term. To me privilege means a right that other many people may not have. Also both article’s are telling me that there is inequality, which is racism something we are keep dealing with today. In the article, ‘White privilege: unpacking the invisible knapsack’ by Peggy Mclntosh it states , ” 1. I can if I wish arrange to be in the company of people of my race most of the time.” This is telling us that she/he can be in a company of their own race, meaning she has the right to do that if they chose too.
