The film entitled “Disclosure” is about transgender people in today’s culture and their lives. Although i was only able to watch the trailer. Watching it reminded me one of the worst films i have ever seen. The name of the film is entitled “Boys don’t cry” is about a female who fail in love with another woman. However, one of them have decided to be a lesbian without the other partner knowing. Things took a different turn at the end when people found out she was lying about her sex. She had her girlfriend thinking that she was a man. She even changed her identity. When her lovers’ friends discovered this, she was raped and murdered. The trans man’s man in the movie was Brandon Teena and the girlfriend’s name was Lana. This movie is inspired by a true event that happened. After watching this movie, I am double sided because although i feel bad for Brandon for being raped, beaten and later murdered, I also don’t think she should have lied about her identity and pretended to be a man. I feel like this is what led to her death. Another person this reminded of is Jazz Jennings. Jazz Jennings is an American YouTube personality and LGBT rights activist. On her YouTube channel she describes how challenging it was for her to transition.

I believe that sometimes the LGBT community forces people to accept them. Many people are not in support of lesbians, transgenders, and gays. I feel like the LGBT community is a little similar to what african americans because we were fighting for our rights, for our voices to be heard, and for the discrimination to end. Like the  LGBT community African-Americans also get treated differently from everyone else. Many of our black men get shot because of police brutality, get sentenced to jail for years while a white man would get a couple of years for committing the same crime. Therefore the LGBT community and the black community have a lot in common because both communities are targets.

The video entitled “The Abortion Divide” is about numerous women who come to the abortion clinic to get abortion. While watching this video it seems like many of the women were skeptical about getting the procedure done. After hearing about the risks that this may cause, many of them are horrified. There are many risks to having an abortion which are infections, heavy bleeding, clots on the uterus, damage to the vagina, uterus, problems with future pregnancies, and even death. In the early 1980s there were a few of the crisis pregnancy centers operating. Now there are thousands across the country. There are 150 on Pennsylvania which are located near abortion clinics. They are not required to have a license unlike abortion clinics.

While watching this video this made me sick to my stomach because I feel like women think that this procedure is easier said than done. Not only are you murdering an inncocent baby, you can die or suffer for the rest of your life after doing this process. I understand that people have different opinions and that women have rights to do what they please but I think that we don’t think enough before making this ridiculous decision. Especially if you are a woman or have children already what makes the 6th or 7th child so different from the others. Why not have your child and put it up for adoption, why go through something so painful? I feel like women don’t take responsibility for what they do. For example, one woman in the video said that she had unprotected sex not knowing she would get pregnant. What sense does that make? If you were smart you would use protection instead of making a selfish decision of ending an innocent baby’s life. While watching this video many of the women did not seem remorseful for what they’re about to do. Even when they were told about the risks, they went ahead to do the procedure anyway. My problem is why have sexual relations with no protection, then get suprised when you are pregnant, and then decide to murder an unborn child. If i was a female i would rather not have sex at all or use protection instead of going through this procedure.

In conclusion i believe that abortion is not the answer to everything. I think no matter what you should have your child and keep it or give it up for adoption. I believe that abortion should be againsts the law. Abortion to me is murdering an innocent life. The people who do this should not be blessed with a child if this is what they do, especially the mothers who have had kids before.

Racial identity refers to how a person defines themselves with race or ethnicity. According to WordPress “Racial identity is a dynamic sociopolitical construction and assists in the understanding of within-group differences of people of different races. Racial identity development is relevant to all racial groups and incorporates perspectives of a person’s view of self with regard to his or her own racial group and other racial groups. Racial identity is an important construct because it is a more meaningful concept, and likely a better predictor of behavior, than racial group membership alone. In addition, the experiences of people of color are not homogeneous and have resulted in different meanings and attributions about being a part of a specific racial group.” This quote explains that racial identity is people with different races. It is mostly how an individual views themselves in  regards to race. Many times not only do the individual themselves struggle with their own identity but other people struggle to know who they are.

I agree with Allison’s post because Amara la negra is a reality tv star who has been degraded because she looks different. As an afro latina many people label her being too black to be considered a latina. As an artist many people rejected her because she was too dark, her hair was too kinky. A man in particular commented on her looks on the reality show entitled “Love and Hip Hop Miami”. The men made some comments stating that she should try different looks and get rid of the afro. He was saying that he wants him to have her hair straight, doing box braids, or cornrows. He was basically telling her that she does not look good with an afro. He continued to say that in the music industry they only accept a certain woman with a certain look. According to Allure Amara stated “ I started to notice that I was the only black girl in the group and I was put right in the middle or all the way in the back. I always recall this one specific moment when I was getting my hair done at the TV station and the hairstylist told my mom I needed to get my hair permed because it wasn’t manageable and they didn’t have time for that. I was thinking, “What’s wrong with my hair?” because I couldn’t process all the information. Later on, my mom had to perm my hair and then I became like one of the rest of the girls. That was my way of fitting in. But I always knew from a very early age that my skin color was different from the rest of the people I worked with and that it came with a responsibility, racism, being looked down upon. You know when you’re walking down the sidewalk and people who don’t look like us are holding tight to their purses. And anytime there are cops, I go into a total panic because even though I’m Afro-Latina, we feel the same fears as the African-American community. Until you talk to us, you don’t know that we’re Latino. We’re seen as black and we have the same fears. I’ve felt the pressure all my life.” This quote shows how Amara was struggling with her racial identity. She was being treated differently because she was “too dark” to be considered a latina. She was judged by her skin color, and her hair texture. She has been going through this for a long time. She was told to change the texture of her hair so that it could be “manageable.”

Responding to Allison Williams

I agree with Allison’s snapshot because black women have been suffering for a long time. Whether it’s from jobs, low pay, racism, colorism and more. According to an author from the 1977 Combahee river collective statement “There is also undeniably a personal genesis for Black Feminism, that is, the political realization that comes from the seemingly personal experiences of individual Black women’s lives. Black feminists and many more Black women who do not define themselves as feminists have all experienced sexual oppression as a constant factor in our day-to-day existence. As children we realized that we were different from boys and that we were treated differently. For example, we were told in the same breath to be quiet both for the sake of being “ladylike” and to make us less objectionable in the eyes of white people. As we grew older we became aware of the threat of physical and sexual abuse by men. However, we had no way of conceptualizing what was so apparent to us, what we knew was really happening”. This quote means that women have been under malicious treatment for a while. They were treated as if their beliefs and their experiences were not important. In addition women were different because we were not allowed to express ourselves because we have to be polite or act like a lady. This is still going on in 2021 because women would be called names for speaking their opinion or for having a voice. While the men  were being praised or they would call them bosses whenever they had a different outlook on things. Finally women get physically and sexually abused by men and nothing is being done about it or women are told to be silent about it or even get threatened.

One of the worst things black women experience is colorism especially in the black community. In the black community we are often being bashed for the color of our skin not by white people but by our own race. Dark skin women are often being called ugly by black males and lighter skin women would get praised for their lighter complexion. Something that many black women have experienced is getting backhanded compliments like “ you’re pretty for a dark skin, or i only like pretty black girls with loose curls or nicer hair textures. Black women are always in a competition with each other. This has caused a division between us because many times the dark skin women would be jealous of the light skin women or vice versa. Finally society has taught us that the lighter you are the more privileged you are. This happens a lot in the entertainment industry. Especially in the music industry. Women are often rejected ( dark skins in particular) because they have to look a certain way ( Light skin with nice hair) so that their music becomes popular.

                                                   Response to Jaisly Dominguez

I like how Jaisly’s photo demonstrates a female robot doing multiple things at a time. This shows that as women we are always multitasking, overworking. Women would take care of the house, the children, and take care of their husband. While women do all these things, they still don’t have a job. Although this does not occur as often as it did eighty years ago, instead today some women are the head of the household. They would pay the bills, clean and take care of the children while some men just leisure around being a couch potato. Some men still believe that women should stick to being the housewife to do all the chores because it’s a “ woman’s job”. For example some men are still stuck on the idea that women should be the cook, the washer and the dishwasher. Men would do other things like paying the car, phone, light, and cable bill. A long time ago women would be at home while their husband would go to work for money. Women have been through many atrocities. Some of these atrocities were not being able to vote, not working, getting paid less, and lacking significant education.

Women are also being taken advantage of in terrible ways. For example, many women I know were sexually abused by a man. It could’ve been by a family member or a stranger. We were told to stay silent because people would not believe us. Instead they would side with the rapist. Women were silenced because if not they would be seen as fast or filthy or they would be accused of seducing the man. Many times I look back at photos of these women because many of them were being taken  advantage of because they were too hard working. Sometimes I put myself in their place. I believe that women deserve to be treated with respect. We should be given respect especially by our men in the community. Not only do we bring life to this world but without women the world would be a hectic place. There is much more that a woman is worth than being a house maid. We should be able to get an education, pick our own jobs, vote, wear whatever we want, and be free to do what men do.

In conclusion just like we have a Black lives matter movement for black people being targeted, women should have a movement called “Women lives matter”. This should bring awareness to the inequalities that women face around the world. In addition there should be a civil rights movement strictly for women to end the inequalities and the problems that women faced. Although these things don’t happen as often anymore. Women are being treated poorly in other countries
